Locum Assistant Editor, BMC Biology
Fixed Term, 6 months
London

BMC Biology is a flagship journal of BioMed Central, and has a mission to publish influential research across all areas of biology. The journal is ranked 3rd among research journals in the Biology category of the Journal Citation Index and has an international editorial board of leading scientists. BMC Biology has a track record in innovation in editorial policy and in publishing commissioned content designed to stimulate discussion and debate.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the editorial mission of BMC Biology, working as part of a dynamic team of editors.
Main Responsibilities
• Helping to identify and invite peer reviewers for submitted research articles and reach editorial decisions on manuscript.
• Identifying authors for commissioned content and helping to assess it once submitted.
• Liaising with authors, reviewers, internal production and marketing teams.
• Writing short highlights for the table of contents or home page.
• Helping the team to track editorial content to meet publication deadlines.
Job Requirements
• A PhD or equivalent in a relevant area
• Broad scientific interests in areas relevant to the journal
• Excellent written communication skills
• Confident verbal communicator (by phone, in person, in groups)
• Good attention to detail
• Strong organizational and time-management skills
• Enthusiastic and collegial team player
