HarperCollins Christian Publishing is in search of an Editorial Coordinator for their Thomas Nelson Bibles division. Assists the Managing Editor (ME) in overseeing and managing new titles from acceptance through editorial process management to printer ready files. Interfaces with the Bible Group's editorial, marketing, and creative team members as well as shared service areas of the company to support best tools, processes, and practices. Oversees the cover routing process and manages final stages of manuscript approval, ensuring editorial excellence by proofreading product packaging, front and back matter, and routings.
Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities of the Editorial Coordniator include but are not limited to:
• Provide backup to and assist the Managing Editor (ME) in managing resources and providing accountability.
• Set up project records/ISBNs in MDM with publication dates scheduled by the Managing Editor, and set up Marketing ISBNs at the request of Bibles Marketing staff to ensure alignment with corresponding product releases.
• Along with editors and publishers initiate/complete process for enlisting and hiring freelancers and setting them up as Independent Contractors.
• On behalf of Acquisition Editors and Development Editors, manage assignments (with deadlines), flow, evaluation, and payment of invoices for editorial work assigned to ICs (macro editors, content editors, copy editors, proofreaders, indexers, theological reviewers).
• At the direction of the ME, support and manage project plans and revisions as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.
• Oversee the cover routing process and manage final stages of manuscript approval, ensuring editorial excellence by proofreading product packaging, front and back matter, and cover routings.
• Assist with managing APL development and processing as requested by the ME.
• Perform editorial operations support tasks (format proofreading, prepress checks, small proofreading jobs), assist Bible Development Editors with editorial tasks as requested (copyright pages including updated templates and updates for all information on the copyright page, pagination guides, UPS mailing slips, printing manuscripts).
• Manage the process for corrections for reprints from beginning to end.
• Assemble the Library of Congress CIP data and manage the entire CIP application/correction and implementation process.
• At the direction of the ME, field, research, and forward as necessary queries received from Customer Service regarding Bible products.
• Manage fulfillment of miscellaneous Bibles projects and initiatives/programs as requested by the Managing Editor.
• Facilitate and/or prepare meeting materials for recurring Bible Group meetings as part of the Managing Editorial team under the direction of the Managing Editor; manage follow-up on meeting action items.
• Assist with taking notes during Bible Group meetings.
• Prioritize and manage miscellaneous editorial project communication as assigned by the Managing Editor.
• Coordinate with Legal to ensure copyrights are obtained for assigned books.
Qualifications:
Desired candidate will possess the following knowledge, experience, education and skills:
Knowledge/Work Experience: Experience in publishing/editorial work preferred
Education:B.A. in English, Communications, or a related area
Industry Knowledge: General understanding of the Christian publishing industry preferred
