The Detroit Free Press, PART OF THE USA TODAY NETWORK, seeks an experienced and knowledgeable reporter to join our newsgathering efforts. Reporter will have significant experience in producing top-level signature journalism centered around Metro Detroit history, development and race relations. This position may also contribute to other projects, live events and the Freep Now trending news team.
This is a temporary 6-month position inside the Detroit Free Press newsroom. This shift will work Monday-Friday, 37.5 hours per week, with the possibility of overtime. Nights and weekend work may be possible. Advanced multimedia and digital journalism skills also desired.
Here's what you need:
Bachelor's degree in journalism or equivalent experience.
Exceptional reporting skills and the ability to deliver a cadence of enterprise stories and long-term project work.
Significant experience ideating and collaborating on multimedia and digital assets to tell stories, including but not limited to photography, video, graphics, longform presentations and social media.
Deep understanding of and curiosity about competition for our customers' time and money.
Industry knowledge.
Understanding of social media and how to engage fan bases on digital platforms.
Effective communicator; able to get along with diverse personalities.
Able to multi-task and excel under intense deadline pressure in a rapidly changing industry.
Knows how to use time efficiently in a 24-hour newsroom.
Works collaboratively within a cross-functional environment.
