Job Description
For its Annecy Production Studio, Ubisoft is looking for a 3D Character Technical Director (M/F)to join a team in charge of developing a AAA game.
Drawing on experience in the world of video games, movies, or virtual reality, the ideal candidate seeks new challenges in working on upcoming Ubisoft blockbusters.
Directly under the supervision of the Character Studio Director, the ideal candidate for this position is responsible for determining, preparing, and adapting the tools that should be used during production for modeling and (to a lesser extent) animation.
Responsibilities:
Working closely with key partner studios (Montreal, Toronto, Shanghai, etc.), you will define projects and improvements to be made to the existing pipeline. You will therefore have to travel between the studios to meet and discuss with your peers.
Develop or find the best tools (ex. 3ds Max/Maya, MotionBuilder, etc.) and methods possible for improving and facilitating the work of the animators.
Develop tools for modeling, Rig, and facial capture.
Create, organize, and lead training sessions so that all members of the modeling team can properly use the tools and methods.
Produce documentation on tools, methods, training, processes, and engine constraints for future reference and consultation.
Coordinate and act as a contact between the modeling team and the programming team.
Regularly communicate technical constraints and their reasons to the modeling team.
Serve as the technical contact for technical issues related to characters.
Perform all other related tasks.
This project, in which quality is very important, is being developed for a next generation console. Technical and artistic innovation will be needed in order to achieve the desired quality level.
Qualifications:
A minimum of 5 years of experience as Character/Animation Technical Director (ideally in video games)
Excellent knowledge of real-time modeling techniques (shaders, normal map, displace, morph, etc.)
Excellent knowledge of Maya/3ds Max
Excellent knowledge of Python, MEL, MAXScript, ORSDK, and C#
Knowledge of character modeling/rigging
Ability to work on a team and embrace challenges
English desired
