Glamour is seeking a highly motivated, well-organized, strategic Special Events Director to create a comprehensive events strategy for the brand, and oversee the production of all Glamour events, from intimate dinners and internal initiatives to major summits and awards ceremonies. This individual will be charged with translating Glamour’s mission and esthetic into modern, scaleable, sponsorable events, innovative new approaches and a flawless client experience. We’re looking for a nimble personality who can manage all levels of talent, both external and internal, and who loves both creating an events strategy and rolling up her/his sleeves to do the production work.
Primary Responsibilities
• Work with Glamour’s executive leadership to devise an overall events strategy each year, bringing fresh thinking to the question of how to use live experiences to achieve our brand goals (from generating revenue to building audience to making a difference in women’s lives).
• Plan and execute a range of events on behalf of the Brand, ranging from small exclusive EIC-hosted roundtable events to major annual signature programs, always thinking about how to improve and innovate. “Executing” an event starts when you sit down with the internal leads to talk about strategy and goals; it continues after the event, when you assess success and create a recap for internal stakeholders.
• Execute all internal live experiences, from staff town halls to team volunteer activities to internal lunch-and-learn series.
• Oversee the annual events budget, preparing budgets for all events prior, during and after execution reporting to the executive director, finance.
• Oversee all events staff, from individual freelancers to large outside agencies brought in for events (décor, list management, production). Our goal is a smooth-running collaborative team, led by this positive individual.
• Work alongside the deputy director of editorial partnerships and the advertising team to expand our list of strategic partners and sponsorship opportunities. The events director assumes responsibility for flawless production of agreed-upon sponsor elements.
• Manage all legal contracts for venues, vendors etc. in conjunction with Operations team.
• Create a shared database of event knowledge for brand from invite lists to partner opportunities and more with stakeholders.
• Think ambitiously about how to use new and emerging trends - is everything from social media to fashion – to grow Glamour’s events profile.
Requirements
• Must have 6+ years’ experience at a senior level in event planning, strategy and hands-on execution.
• Experience managing event producers, freelancers and associate staff.
• Experience working on contracts and agreements.
• Ability to independently manage multiple-task projects and meet deadlines and budgets.
• Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, internally and externally.
• Taste and an esthetic sensibility that pairs well with Glamour’s, and an enthusiasm for the range of personalities we work with, from fashion to politics.
• A modern understanding of what makes an event successful—social-media expertise a plus.
