Post Production Intern – Motion Picture Group, Summer 2017
Department Overview:
The Post Production team oversees and manages the post process for all Columbia/Tristar feature films. We work very closely with creative executives and filmmakers to ensure the look and sound of the film is of its highest quality. Our department is responsible for establishing budgets that control production workflows for camera and sound on set, managing the editing process, all the way to a films final delivery. The process includes picture editorial, sound, visual effects and music. Additionally, our team is responsible for providing quality-controlled content and technical support for special events, previews, and premieres.
Intern responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
• Attend weekly post production/production staff meetings to discuss the status on all shows.
• Attend facility tours (Sound Mixing Stages, Foley stages, ADR Stages and Scoring Stage) facilitated by Post Executive for filmmakers, potential clients, etc.
• Shadow Post Executives on their projects.
• Attend Final DCP (Digital Cinema Package) screenings for quality check purposes.
• Voice-Over (ADR): Assist with scheduling voice-over sessions as well as assembling and distributing contracts for voice-over actors. Moreover, attend ADR sessions with our loop group actors on various projects.
• Learn how to create post production schedules and how to review delivery schedules and requirements.
• Assist with purchase orders.
• Attend Color Timing (DI) sessions at Deluxe under the direction of a Post Executive, to observe the color correcting process for films.
• Discuss screenings and the process of setting up DCP screenings with filmmakers, focus groups, etc.
• Discuss PIX, VUE, screeners, and Aspera as it relates to viewing and sending post material.
• Create a workflow chart that illustrates the post production process.
• Learn the latest film technology, cameras, lab process, and sound formats.
• Assist with administrative tasks as needed.
The intern will gain experience/exposure to the following:
• Learn the post production process from experienced post production executives from the start of production to final delivery
• Gain an understanding of post-production schedules/budgeting process and their importance to the overall film making process.
• Exposure to the hiring process of editors for feature films.
• Insight on how different departments (i.e. editorial, VFX, sound, music, etc.) contribute on a film.
• How to read and understand dailies and post production workflows.
Qualifications: Requirements for the role (technical skills, educational requirement, interest or coursework)
• Bachelor's degree in progress with an interest in Editing/Sound/Color/Post Production.
• Highly organized, resourceful and dependable with excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to multi-task and work well under pressure in a voluminous deadline-oriented department.
• Must be willing to take and follow directions.
• Must be able to multi-task and prioritize to ensure that all assignments are completed in an accurate and timely
manner.
• Must be flexible – an ability to work well in an environment where needs and priorities are subject to much revision.
• Common sense, dependability, discretion and attention to detail are required.
• Computer and technology literate – familiarity with Mac/PC operating systems and hard drive formats, Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Program Information:
SPE’s Summer 2017 Internship is a 10 week full time program with two session starts, June 12-August 18 or June 26-September 1, 2017. All applicants must be enrolled in an accredited degree program for the entire duration of their internship and must be available for 40 hours per week for the full 10 week session.
