Summary of Role:
Connecting with customers is key to the success of any company, and that is where the writer comes in. By working closely with our marketing partners to discover customers’ challenges and goals, the writer is charged with developing product stories that will resonate deeply with our audience. The writer is also responsible for managing all aspects of their projects from launch to tracking to delivery, bringing all copy in on time, on message, and in accordance with brand guidelines. Candidates must understand that although the position is in many ways a creative one with the majority of time spent writing, there is also a great deal of problem solving and project management responsibility.
Main activities / responsibilities:
●Write compelling, customer-focused copy for best-selling higher education products including product stories, video scripts, marketing websites, headlines, taglines, and more. Collaborate with marketing partners to understand how to connect emotionally with our audience.The writer is responsible for maintaining consistency in tone and content across product copy, and ensuring all guidelines and project goals are met. Includes editing and management of copy for global products versions as well.
●Manage all aspects of the writing and approval process including establishing and achieving project goals, overseeing schedules, maintaining deadlines, communicating regularly with stakeholders, tracking status, and delivering final, approved copy.
●Proofread copy before drafts are routed to marketing or design partners, and again before uploading into systems or going live.
●Copy asset maintenance - The copywriter will ensure product copy is accurate and complete in various internal systems.
●Status report maintenance - The copywriter will maintain various project reports throughout each season to ensure all stakeholders are up-to-date on project status.
●Light HTML coding - The copywriter will work within a content management system to update product copy throughout the year.
●Coordinating copy vendor/contractor projects - For any outsourced US or Global product descriptions, the copywriter will work closely with our copy vendor and/or contractor, preparing copy templates and collecting source documents, assisting in the routing and approval process, ensuring final projects are delivered on schedule, and generally overseeing the successful completion of each batch of projects.
Qualifications
●Business degree; preferably in a writing, advertising, marketing, or communications field
●5 years of writing experience required
●5 years of project management experience required
●Experience in scriptwriting and video project management
●Experience working with brand guidelines (desirable)
●Understanding of and experience with SEO (desirable)
●Understanding of and experience with social media advertising (desirable)
●Excellent communication skills required, with the ability to tell/write compelling stories that connect with customers emotionally
●Exceptional writing, grammar, editing, and proofreading skills required
●Knowledge of copywriting best practices for web and print required
●Ability to distill product and customer info from various stakeholders and documents into compelling product descriptions that connect emotionally with customers and showcase solutions
●Ability to translate features and benefits into relatable product stories
●Ability to follow copy and brand guidelines
●Detail focused
●Excellent project management skills required, with excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple project deadlines and priorities, alerting management to potential issues and offering solutions
●Proficient in use of a Mac and PC, including: MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (required); Acrobat Professional (required); HTML/Dreamweaver (required); InDesign (required); Knowledge of Photoshop and Illustrator (preferred); Experience working in an enterprise cloud-based system (preferred)
●Ability to work independently and self-motivated
●Communication and stakeholder Management: A track record of building and sustaining excellent internal and external relationships (at all levels) who is collaborative and with an ability to build networks. Powerful interpersonal skills with an ability to influence. Ability to appreciate the diversity of stakeholder interactions and adapt style and approach accordingly.
●Ability to stay abreast of copywriting best practices, particularly for web, as well as competitive and industry trends and messaging
