West Group Vice President, Client Strategy
The new Gannett Company/USA Today Network is a leading provider of media and marketing solutions and premiere digital solutions company, seeks a Group Vice President of Client Strategy responsible for driving digital and traditional revenue growth primarily through client strategy and business development while also overseeing B2B marketing activities in Gannett’s West Division. Reporting to the Vice President of Client Strategy with a dotted line to the West Group President this role collaborates with Gannett’s Vice President of Client Strategy, the West Group President and the West Group Vice President of Sales to articulate the story of our premium product portfolio, including the results we deliver, to local enterprise accounts to increase share of local advertising and marketing spending in particular digital. This role partners closely with sales colleagues to prove ROI for our clients and drive revenue growth for our business. The West Group consists of 50 multi-media properties including; Republic Media (Arizona) Enquirer Media (Cincinnati), Star Media (Indianapolis), Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, and Desert Sun Media (Palm Springs), RGJ Media (Reno), and CJ Media (Louisville). The position will be located in Indianapolis and requires at least bi-weekly travel to other markets.
Responsibilities:
• Direct a team of local market Client Strategy Directors to develop and deliver high quality, strategic marketing solutions that drive a return on investment for our advertising customers. Guides the local Client Strategy Directors to establish and execute the highest priorities against the best client growth opportunities to attain revenue goals. Areas of responsibility include client strategy, B2B marketing strategy and execution, project management, leveraging analytics and insights and directing creative staff. The number one priority of the role is to increase revenue from medium and large local accounts.
• Drive digital growth of our business by hiring and maintaining a staff of forward thinking digital experts who partner with sales to bring the right solutions to our customers and prove results.
• Develop B2B marketing collateral, presentations and other internal and external communication to ensure we are “telling our story” to the business community. Leverage primary and secondary research to generate actionable insights.
• Work with creative team to package insights in the form of multi-channel art, copy, and branded experiences.
• Work with the Group President, Group Vice President of Sales, and local publishers to formulate and implement key sales planning efforts. Lead annual planning process. Use marketing intelligence to gain a firm understanding of market potential and critical business opportunities by market.
• Provide business and community leadership that advances our corporate mission. Identify and develop strategic alliances and media partners to further long-term B2B goals.
• Collaborate with other Gannett sales and marketing leaders to support world-class sales and marketing transformation within West Group, with a strong focus on the largest revenue markets. Provide consultation to individual media properties and work with underperforming sites to develop strategies and improve performance.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate must be a digital marketing expert with client-facing sales and/or account management experience who has a track record of helping companies grow in the face of intensifying competitive pressure and rapidly changing media consumption patterns. This senior leader should possess high digital and creative acumen while having the ability to thrive in a matrix organization, balancing competing priorities while maintaining a tight focus on achieving revenue growth.
• MBA preferred. 10+ years of experience in B2B marketing, business/market development, advertising agency and/or client strategy with a proven record of delivering results.
• VP or director level experience with track record of building and managing a highly effective team.
• Demonstrated responsibility and accountability for delivering significant revenue in a competitive business-to-business environment.
• Strong strategic marketing capabilities, including ability to understand and satisfy customer needs.
• Multimedia marketing expertise, including advanced expertise with digital and social media
• Media planning expertise, including a deep understanding on how to harness different media options to deliver measurable value.
• Brand marketing expertise, including brand strategy and brand governance.
• Excellent interpersonal and communications skills to thrive in a matrix environment.
