Responsibilities
Business Unit Overview:
Business Operations & Strategy is responsible for charting a holistic multi-platform advertising strategy supported by strong operational, research and insights, and marketplace strategy capabilities. The group works hand-in-hand with the network and site leaders, sales leaders and respective teams across Entertainment, News, Hispanic, and Sports to drive profitable revenue growth across all screens. The group oversees advertising strategy & business development, advertising operations, analytics, yield management, insights & research, new platform and ad product development and manages all internal and 3rd party sales channel relationships and advertising technology partnerships.
Sales Strategy & Operations Department Overview:
The Sales Strategy & Operations team is responsible for developing a holistic ad sales strategy for the NBCUniversal portfolio of assets, both linear and digital. That includes identifying profitable revenue opportunities, developing the structure, capabilities, go-to-market strategies and execution plans necessary to capture the growth opportunities. We partner closely with the sales teams, the network/edit/site teams, and various internal functions (Finance, Research, HR, etc.) to manage the ad sales business across all screens (linear and digital). Additionally, this is the team that executes on our digital promises to our clients. This group charts the specific sales strategies for the teams, and then ensures NBCU can deliver on those promises for our clients.
Role Summary
The Senior Director of Ad Sales Strategy will cover both the Entertainment and Lifestyle brands with particular focus on the Lifestyle Portfolio which includes E!, Bravo, Oxygen, Sprout and Fandango. She/he will work with sales management on the go-to-market strategy for the both the overall portfolio as well as the individual brands, including their linear and digital efforts, focusing on digital growth and multiplatform evolution for Total Audience selling. The Sr. Director will also work on initiatives spanning the wider NBCU portfolio as required. The core responsibilities include the following:
• Partner with Ad Sales Management on go-to-market strategy (Upfront, Multi-platform selling, Portfolio selling across verticals, etc.)
• Partner with Network and site teams on setting joint edit/product/sales strategies that align to growth opportunities (e.g. jointly identifying areas for investment based on marketplace demand)
• Drive monetization of new product offerings via selling strategy and operationalize end-to-end processes for new products (for both portfolio and brand-specific products)
• Partner with Business Management on revenue pacing and sales performance, assess health of verticals and provide recommendations and actions to grow
• Conduct competitive market analysis for the Entertainment & Lifestyle verticals and synthesize, distill and socialize key trends that influence areas of growth and risk for the organization
• Conduct client & category analysis on areas for growth (demand side modeling)
• Work cross-functionally to oversee annual budget and long-range planning activities for the individual brands
• Act as sales champion to Entertainment & Lifestyle brands and be a brand ambassador to ad sales teams to ensure all teams are aligned on priorities, value proposition and sales strategy.
• Evaluate and support high-impact strategic projects across wider ad sales portfolio
• Lead education and training on new product initiatives to the sales teams
• Work intimately with cross functional areas of business (Planning/Marketing/Sales/Strategy/Research/Operations/Site) to ensure seamless execution of initiatives and smooth operation of BAU processes
• Work across verticals to identify and share best-in-class practices and products to leverage across the portfolio
Qualifications/Requirements
Qualifications
• Exceptional, results-driven and focused individual, combining a quantitative outlook with the ability to organize, motivate and lead stakeholders from across vertical and wider portfolio to drive change
• Passion for diving into complex concepts, defining value propositions and championing the voice of sales throughout our Entertainment and Lifestyle brand partners
• Analytically-driven thought leader who can perform business analysis and real-time tactical execution of priority initiatives
• Flexible, able to deal with ambiguity and comfortable working in a fast paced, results oriented environment, and aligning the interests of multiple stakeholders
• Self-starter who can perform independently and proactively while working in a collaborative team environment
• Bachelor degree required; MBA preferred
• A minimum of 8 years of experience in either strategy, finance, media, research, consulting, sales or a combination of the above
• Experience in digital media, advertising, and sales preferred
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
• Outstanding interpersonal & networking skills
• Advanced quantitative and analytical skills
• Ability to travel as required
