DESCRIPTION:
Data plays a central role at CBS Interactive. Our Business Intelligence team is a crucial part of driving business, product, and operational decisions by providing rich data, strategic insights and analytical products. We are looking for an exceptional Manager who is passionate about data and entertainment, who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, and who is energized to lead a team of analytical professionals.
The perfect fit for this role requires someone with the ability to deliver meaningful insights and strategic recommendations for our businesses, effectively lead projects and execute strategies to drive audience and revenue growth, as well as perform very hands-on technical analyses and modeling in support of our growing video subscription service, CBS All Access. The ideal candidate has a proven track record of:
Develop and manage a team of 1-3 analysts
Execute on data initiatives and lead data projects to better understand our audience, content and product offering across all platforms and business models. Leverage that data to grow the business, deliver personalized product and advertising experiences.
Design and perform mathematical models and detailed analyses to help deepen understanding of customer activity across all digital platforms including web, mobile, connected devices, and video subscription services
Apply sophisticated computational, statistical, and modeling techniques in support of decision-making; techniques include A/B testing, predictive analysis, data mining, acquisition and churn analysis, clustering and segmentation
Develop ad-hoc analyses, distilling complex analytical results down to concise summary and presenting actionable insights to non-technical audiences.
Build and maintain reports, dashboards, and tracking metrics to monitor the performance of our products
Manage development of data resources, gather requirements, organize sources, and support product launches
Foster effective business relationships with all internal and external partners, vendors and stakeholders.
You’ll be part of a team that helps tackle challenging questions, including:
What are the different video viewing behaviors of CBS.com/CBS All Access users and do these differ across various dimensions such as time, platform, geography, etc?
How should CBS.com and CBS All Access deliver the best content to our users and how do we increase content consumption?
Who are our high risk CBS All Access users and how do we retain them?
How do we enhance the user experience across various digital platforms?
How is the business pacing towards goal and how will milestones impact the performance of the business in the future?
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Bachelor’s degree in quantitative field; Masters a plus.
2+ years of direct management experience
5+ years of relevant working experience (in a similar role), preferably for an online entertainment media/subscription/publishing company
Excellent statistical intuition, application, and knowledge of various analytical approaches
Proficient in advanced SQL coding and extensive experience querying/mining large, complex, and raw data sets in Hive/Hadoop (or similar environments)
Proficient with analytical tools supporting data analysis, reporting, and visualization (R, Adobe, Tableau, Excel)
A scripting language, e.g. Python, Java
Expert users of web analytics (Adobe, Google Analytics)
Ability to operate independently, prioritize/manage multiple and time sensitive projects simultaneously, and adapt to change in a fast-paced news environment.
Strong detail-orientation with a penchant for data accuracy
Excellent communication and presentation skills with ability to create and deliver findings, presentations and reports to senior management.
Exemplary relationship builder who is consultative in nature and able to quickly form partnerships with colleagues and customers
Must successfully pass a background check
Position can be based in San Francisco (preferred) or Los Angeles.
