Summary of role:
This is finance position supporting the Finance Director in acting as a Business Partner to the Product Management and Design (PM&D) organization.
Responsible for a cost base of approx. £150m including overhead, conceptual, maintenance and cap dev spend across Product Management and Design and related areas such as Technology/Engineering. The BPM Product Management and Design product development efforts support HE Courseware revenues of approx. £1.3bn.
Main activities/responsibilities:
• Support Finance Director, BPM Product Management and Design as a business partner and advisor to the Global Product and BPM Product Management and Design team and specifically to assigned business partners, advising on financial matters and ensuring delivery of business and operational objectives
• Support Finance Director in the Collaboration with PMO on management of Product Portfolio set up and tracking of project structure, budgeting/forecasting, and tracking of actual results. Understanding of Total Cost of Ownership and the ability to apply TCO to financial analysis and business case support.
• Oversight of actual monthly results and KPIs and informed and insightful commentary thereon.
• Highlight key risks and opportunities within functions and providing insights
• Support decisions on project and portfolio investments, ensuring they are measured against financial targets
• Manage Balance Sheet budgeting/forecasting, Annual Impairment Reviews, and frequent risk assessment of balance sheet
• Identify and address operational improvement and cost opportunities. Contribute and support to Global Product Finance transformation initiatives as required.
• Support Finance Director in the Development & preparation of financial business cases supporting BPM Product Management and Design with support from PFS. Support decisions on pipeline investments, ensuring they are measured against financial targets
• Work collaboratively with PFS to deliver key reporting, planning and forecasting processes providing accurate and timely future facing data on which to base decisions
• Understand the businesses regulatory and audit requirements and ensure they are adhered to
• Consistent and extensive collaboration within Finance and across Pearson, including colleagues in Geographies, Assessments, Enabling Functions, Country hub operations and Centres of excellence organised at the Pearson level
. Ensure the business always remains in line with control standards
Expected Results:
• Effective partnering and strong communication between PM&D leadership teams and GP Finance teams
• Strong performance against KPIs and targets
• Accurate and timely delivery of investment and business cases and follow up activity
• Improved performance through greater focus on profitability and cost efficiency
• Effective involvement of PFS in all relevant processes
• Successful rollout of the Enabling Programme (TEP)
• Operating model and new ways of working implemented across Global Product, and finance
• Operational improvements and cost opportunities identified and realized
• Strong collaboration with Product groups, Geographies, Assessments, Enabling Functions, Group Control, Finance Centres of Excellence and with embedded Finance teams across Pearson
• Improved forecasting and planning efficiency and accuracy
• Leverage of analytics tools to focus organisation on value-added activities
