The Director of Public Relations is responsible for business and consumer publicity for several Hearst Magazine brands, as well as other corporate and executive initiatives. This position oversees the PR efforts for a selection of the company’s magazine media brands, including Marie Claire, Town & Country and HGTV Magazine. This role will also contribute to corporate public relations initiatives and projects.
SPECIALIZED/TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE:
The ideal candidate will be creative, strategic, highly organized, able to quickly prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, with 6-8 years of direct experience in media relations/public relations/publicity and a track record of:
• Proactively generating results in business and consumer press
• Interacting with company executives and senior staff
• Acting as a liaison with outside PR firms Must be an experienced writer with copyediting skills, an understanding of digital and social media, a keen sense of trends and newsworthy opportunities and an interest in fashion/beauty and lifestyle, as well as comfort and confidence when interacting with senior executives and solid relationships with reporters and producers. Good judgment, attention to detail, the ability to plan ahead, work efficiently and meet tight deadlines are essential
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Promote editorial and business achievements, brand extensions, digital initiatives, partnerships and events to the media.
• Work directly with executives, senior staff, editors and publishers on media opportunities.
• Serve as a spokesperson for individual titles when necessary.
• Produce written materials, including press releases, statements, briefing materials for executives, pitch letters for media and other communications.
• Brainstorm and develop big ideas and beneficial partnerships that will generate media interest.
• Liaise with and manage public relations agencies and other vendors on contract.
• Assist vice president on corporate initiatives.
