Who We Are
Click play and it just works… for over 93 million customers. Behind the scenes, over 100,000 globally distributed virtual machines are processing petabytes of data and billions of network requests, providing uninterrupted service alongside frequent code deployments and immense auto scaling changes. Making such a web service highly available requires hundreds of micro-services to maintain excellent availability, performance and efficiency. Our data team supports all these brilliant engineers who make this global choreography possible, providing the data and insights they need to make the best possible decisions.
We are looking for a Senior Analytics Engineer to work directly with our cloud platform engineering teams to build insightful data products (data pipelines, dashboards, and analysis). You will support and contribute to fine tuning the global cloud infrastructure of Netflix, insuring that we deliver the most available and responsive product for both our engineers and customers!
Our current challenges revolve around building a more comprehensive picture of the various reliability patterns in our micro-services graph. How do we identify appropriate service-health metrics based on the function and position of the service in that graph? Can we automatically notify our engineers on reliability regressions and possible remediation options? How does the reliability of Netflix impact our subscriber’s experience?
What You’ll Do
• Develop subject-matter expertise in the domain of client-side and server-side performance and reliability of the Netflix cloud environment.
• Transform raw data from different sources (Hive, internal/external APIs, Kafka, ...) to surface actionable insights for your engineering partners.
• Build and improve high-visibility reports and dashboards used by your direct partners and a diverse set of teams across the company.
• Enable self-service analytics for application and performance engineers to help them analyze the efficiency, reliability and performance of various micro-services.
• Find ways to propagate new analytical techniques to any metric and dimension across the micro-services data sources.
Who You Are
• You share our passion for producing high quality, timely analytic work and continuously improving the ways we use data to make Netflix better.
• You are an engineering-minded analyst with 5+ years of experience applying analytic techniques and building analytic tools at a web-oriented company, preferably supporting an engineering or product function.
• You excel at taking vague requirements and crystallizing them into valuable tools and perspectives.
• You are very comfortable using programming languages to manipulate and analyze data (Python, Spark, Scala...).
• You are an expert in SQL.
• You are always looking for new and meaningful ways to visually communicate analytic insights using a variety of tools (Tableau, Javascript Libraries, …).
• You have exceptional communication skills.
