Atlantic Studios explores multimedia storytelling in the rapidly evolving world of nonfiction video production. We produce original documentaries, interview series, and other video content for The Atlantic’s digital properties and beyond. We also feature a diverse selection of videos by independent creators on the Atlantic Video channel.
We seek a production manager with experience coordinating the operations of a documentary-focused video production team.
The production manager will report to the executive producer and oversee the day-to-day production needs of our growing video department. This person thrives in a fast-paced, highly collaborative work environment and has strong organizational skills and technical expertise in video production and post-production equipment and workflows. Most of all, this person loves working closely with a creative team and gets a thrill from organizing the often-chaotic production process. This position is full time and based in The Atlantic’s offices in Washington, D.C.
Responsibilities include
• Manage day-to-day operations of The Atlantic’s growing video production department, including schedules, budgets, and deliverables
• Maintain server, media archive, and production and post-production equipment
• Process contracts, invoices, agreements, releases, and other paperwork
• Train staff in production and post-production best practices
Experience
• At least 3 years of professional experience in journalistic/documentary video production
• At least 1 year of experience in a production management role, working with in-house teams and 3rd party houses, ideally including short-form web video formats
• Strong understanding of industry-standard technology including camera (Canon) and lighting equipment, software (Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Dropbox, etc.), post-production workflow, project management tools (Basecamp, Google Docs), and streaming video platforms (YouTube, Brightcove, Vimeo, Facebook)
• The ability to manage multiple projects on tight deadlines with rigorous attention to detail and high editorial standards
