The Manager, Systems Administration is primarily responsible for managing the team that handles the installation, maintenance, configuration, and integrity of computer software. This position implements operating system enhancements that will improve the reliability and performance of the system. The Manager develops implements and ensures that the long-term requirements of the systems operations and administration are included in the overall information systems planning of the organization. Establishes short and mid-term work plans and optimizes resources to ensure that work area objectives are consistently met. Exercises good judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
The Manager, Systems Administration is responsible for mentoring and supporting the systems administration team and is involved in infrastructure and enterprise solution planning. The role is also responsible for establishing application development best practices and resolving emergency issues. Candidates must have experience managing projects to completion on schedule, developing schedules for meetings and other milestones; and working with teammates and assigning projects. Must be able to coordinate and manage multiple, varied projects that may last from one day to many months.
Qualifications
• 4-year degree from an accredited institution in MIS, IT, Computer Science or related field, OR appropriate combination of education and significant experience
• Minimum 5 years of Linux/*NIX system administration and operation of highly available systems (preferably in CentOS/RedHat)
• Minimum 5 years of experience deploying websites for mobile and handheld devices
• Minimum 3 years of experience with WordPress or other related open-source content management system with setup and maintenance of LAMP servers
• Minimum 5 years of systems analysis experience including requirements gathering, functional design, and technical design
• Experience setting up and maintaining centralized version control system (SVN and Git)
• Fluency in administering Apache Web Server, MySQL database server
• Extensive experience with MySQL/MS-SQL, familiarity with design and architecture of relational databases
• Demonstrated ability to handle rigorous attention to detail in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose server security issues and performance problems and quickly implement solutions
• Working knowledge of browser technology, features and functionality
• Experience with system, unit and integration testing of web applications
• Windows Server and IIS experience a plus
Supervisory Responsibilities
• Manages activities of two or more sections or departments through subordinate managers who exercise full supervision in terms of costs, methods and staffing
