Summary
We’re looking for a sharp, detail oriented team player to support our communications team across all functions of our business. The right candidate is someone who embraces the challenge of managing projects from concept to completion, isn’t afraid to roll up their sleeves and dive right in, and is passionate about Yelp.
This role is all about media relations - you'll be supporting our Yelp community team of remote employees based across North America and helping them build media relationships in their markets. Additionally, you’ll be supporting both national consumer and small business-focused PR. About you:
• Minimum of 3-4 years of experience in public relations or media relations (either agency or in-house).
• Organized: we're talking "Type A," obsessive attention to details.
• Master of the written word: whip out an attention grabbing media alert, then break it down to a witty Yelp tweet.
• Tactical: able to prioritize and manage a high volume of press inquiries without breaking a sweat and able to juggle multiple projects at once.
• Local pro: you’ve worked on campaigns executed at the local media level and know how to scale stories across the media spectrum.
• Relationship-driven: you know how to identify media targets then build and maintain productive relationships with them.
• Interpersonal savvy: ability to work effectively with numerous remote colleagues and across many different departments within the company.
• Team player: willing to jump in and help with big projects and learn on the go.
• Pop culture and news fiend: always knows what’s trending in headlines, from CNN to Just Jared, and helps our team jump on stories as they’re building steam.
About the job:
• Provide primary PR support to our community management team of ~80 people across North America including messaging training, media tours and local press relations.
• Leverage existing relationships with consumer media and continue building new ones
• Work alongside the team to identify Yelp-y trends then take data and build national consumer pitches.
• Support on small business-focused PR initiatives to help spread the word about Yelp’s tools for local business owners.
Other necessary requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing or liberal arts.
• Skill with MS Word, PowerPoint and MS Excel; Proficient in GDrive and related apps.
• Familiarity with media monitoring services like Cision, Meltwater, Vocus, etc. [Critical Mention and Gorkana experience a plus].
• Interviewees will be expected to complete a writing assignment.
