Role overview:
We’re looking for highly talented and dedicated Game Design Intern for our Madden team who thrives in a fast paced, ever changing environment. When looking for Game Designers, EA values a thorough understanding of gameplay theory and candidates must display logical and strategic thinking as well as imagination and creativity. The ideal candidate possesses information and user interface design skills. They must be able to work both as part of a team and independently. Prior experience in any related game development discipline, including Art, Engineering, or Testing is also a plus.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Designing and implementing game entities, tuning and balancing game systems, review mechanics, and content creation.
• Create great content – Work with the members of your team to create features and programs that delight our players.
• Ensure the highest quality – Testing your creations and working with the QA team to make sure things do what they are supposed to do.
• Developing and maintaining design documentation, including but not limited to mechanics, guidelines, UI flows, game loops and progression.
• Be resourceful and problem solve using the tools and time available to efficiently implement unique and fun experiences for players.
• Think about the future when implementing content, resulting in smartly scripted scalable systems and good design patterns and practices.
• Collaborate and communicate with all disciplines on the team, including artists, animators, modelers, engineers, and producers, to drive a project from initial design to final production.
• Become an expert on the game and the community, drawing from both our large, varied player base and our past games in order to make and defend intelligent design choices going forward.
Qualifications:
• Working towards a degree in Computer Science, Art, or other relevant field.
• At least two years of experience on a video game development team.
• Design experience with game features that focus on open-ended player creativity.
• Experience working directly with artists and engineers to craft game systems.
• Comfortable in Microsoft Word and Excel; can write clearly and succinctly.
• Strong communication skills, especially concerning video games; can describe what makes a particular game good or bad and details on how to improve it.
• Passionate about games – We are looking for people who play games and understand why they love playing them (and why they don’t sometimes).
• Creative and collaborative – Good communications skills, a friendly and open nature, and an active and curious mind.
