Responsibilities
NBCUniversal has built a new technical operation, primarily focused on TV Everywhere fulfillment, Disaster Recovery for content preparation, master control, and origination services for NBCUniversal Broadcast Operations as well as our Owned and Operated stations. This operation will also increase capability for international media prep and fulfillment. Development of the facility is a continuing endeavor. The Core Systems Engineer will be responsible for helping to develop engineering architecture and workflow for the entire facility and working closely with the other principal engineers as well as the rest of the larger engineering organization. It is a full-time position within NBCUniversal’s Technical Operations Distribution Engineering department. The position will report to the Lead, Core Engineering. As the NBCU facility grows, Core Systems Engineer will be tasked with rolling out and commissioning several systems including the workflow systems that will integrate the entire facility.
Job Responsibilities Include:
•Lead the commissioning of certain critical systems including but not limited to: Core Routing & Display systems, SNMP monitoring systems, workflow systems, off air recording tools, signal processing, and other broadcasting systems.
•Create conceptual documentation for new projects to guide the design and build engineer team
•Work with operations and engineering build teams to appropriately plan and coordinate timing for commissioning of projects
•Work with internal subject matter experts and vendors to resolve problems as necessary
•Coordinate commissioning, testing, and release of critical systems to operations
•Work closely with the Project Engineering group to ensure the architectural design of the facility ties out with the overall design objectives of NBCUniversal.
•Manage and plan for upgrades on critical systems
•Work closely with the Technical Operations Group to enhance existing system, workflow, and process
•Produce documentation on systems, networks, policies and procedures as well as communicate the documentation to the larger engineering and operations community
•Train the 24x7 engineering team in support of critical systems
•Train the engineering team in overall architectural objects and provide guidance in making design decisions
•Act as level II escalation support for core systems
Qualifications/Requirements
Basic Qualifications
•BS/BA or equivalent work experience
•2+ years experience in engineering project management
•5+ years experience as hands-on engineer in Production and/or Broadcast environment
•Strong understanding of user and system support, including TCP/IP, Ethernet cabling, infrastructure devices, video/audio cabling
•Working knowledge and understanding of Network Infrastructure, DNS, Cisco switches, routers and firewall
•Understanding of broadcast automation technology
•Proficient in MS Office a must, and a working knowledge of AutoDesk AutoCAD software
•Excellent Troubleshooting skills
•Excellent verbal and documentation skills
