Includes corporate and operational finance, internal teams support, the controllers group, internal audit and risk advisory services, taxation, treasury, corporate strategy and mergers and acquisitions.
The Bell Canada Process and Controls Organization is responsible fore ensuring compliance to rules and regulations surrounding internal controls such as the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and NI 52-109 and to support various business units in ensuring the effectiveness of business process internal controls. Consequently, the successful candidate may also be required to evaluate finance process and systems improvement related projects. This position will report to the Director of Process and Controls and will work closely with corporate and business unit functional groups to ensure Business Unit compliance with regulations surrounding internal controls and ensure internal controls comply with Sarbanes Oxley (Sox) and Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) regulations. This position requires extensive contact with Corporate Finance groups, Business Unit Operations, Internal Audit and External Auditors.
Job Duties/Accountabilities:
• Develop and manage relationships with key Corporate Finance primes and Business Unit Controls teams to communicate and manage guidance and procedures requirements of Sarbanes Oxley.
• Support predominantly the Corporate Finance groups and Business Unit as subject matter expert on internal financial controls.
•Maintain the management evaluation program for the assigned Corporate and Business groups, in addition, issue and review quarterly scorecards with senior management summarizing their significant controls design and effectiveness status
• Gather evidence of proper performance of key controls and their management evaluation.
• Partner with the Business Unit to make appropriate changes to current controls/implementation of new controls; ensure that business process documentation is updated to identify significant change events, process and key internal controls.
• Identify gaps in control effectiveness and act as a SOx subject matter expert advisor as it relates to gap remediation activities flagged by corporate and business process owners, including preparation of memos outlining the solution (as required)
• Provide training on roles, responsibilities and tools to achieve sustainable Sox compliance.
• Implement the sub-certification process in the business unit.
• Support the co-ordination of the external auditor’s annual activities to conduct its walkthroughs and testing.
• Participate on a number of multi-function teams to provide internal control guidance.
• Manage ad hoc internal control requests as required by Senior Management
• Project Management- Work on process improvement projects (as required)
Critical Qualifications/Competencies:
• Strong understanding of US and Canadian GAPP, IFRS and internal financial controls.
• Professional accounting designation (CA)
• The ability to work in a demanding and rapidly changing environment under strict deadlines.
• Experience managing direct reports
• Superior ability to document and present information in a professional and accurate manner..
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
• Strong project management skills including the ability to multi task and synthesize information from various sources.
• Self starter, solutions and delivery oriented.
Preferred Qualifications/Competencies:
• Good understanding of Bell policies and procedures
• Understanding of Telecommunications products and processes and systems
• Previous experience in internal or external audit functions
• PC skills in Microsoft Office with Visio knowledge
• Strong organizational skills
