The Springer Nature “Hybrid OA Initiatives” department is responsible for developing and implementing new Open Access business models for Springer Nature’s subscription-based journals offering a “hybrid open access” option. In 2016, for instance, the new business model “Compact” launched, which combines Open Access publishing with Content Licensing options. Compact enables participating institutions to cover the journal license (access) fees as well as the open access charges centrally for their authors.
The Open Access Manager will oversee workflows and business processes. S/he ensures that business and customer-specific requirements are met and that workflows are adjusted according to market and industry developments. This is a great opportunity for a dedicated individual to be part of a cutting-edge, strategically highly important development that is still evolving and rapidly developing.
Main tasks:
• Strategic planning of workflows/processes: i.e. this entails setting up new workflows as well as identifying, compiling and prioritizing new requirements based on industry developments, business needs and customer feedback
• Project management: Ensure timely implementation of workflows for new requirements, agreements and business models
• Ensure efficiency and scalability of processes
• Communicate and present workflow adjustments/improvements internally and externally
• Define KPIs to continuously measure and monitor the compliance of the individual contracts
• Work and cooperate with internal stakeholders like process content management, SAP and IT teams, controlling, production, marketing, etc
• Day-to-day management
• Communicate effectively with international authors and institutions
Job Requirements:
• Educated to degree level (at least Bachelor Degree) or equivalent experience
• Excellent knowledge of the Open Access publishing industry
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English for handling projects with cross-departmental scope, translator between customer, business and IT
• Strong organizational and analytical skills, with strong attention to detail
• Ability to quickly understand different workflows, systems, their dependencies and interaction
• Ability to explain complex issues in a clear and concise way
• Flexibility to respond to non-routine circumstances
• Experience in project coordination and process optimization
• Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues at all levels
