Summary of Role:
Providing high-level project and communications management, the Community Manager for Global Product supports the articulation and coordinated delivery of external communication of Pearson’s product and efficacy strategy. Critical to the role is the ability to understand and synthesize evidence-based information about a product’s design and its impact on learning, and to collaborate across the business to use such information to craft compelling and creative collateral demonstrating how Pearson is transforming learning and lives.
Main activities / responsibilities:
• Provide portfolio-based project management support to ensure delivery of an insights-driven communications strategy for Pearson products that cuts across Corporate Affairs, Global Marketing and geography marketing.
• With direction from the VP, Global Product and the Director of Communications, support the facilitation of all internal/external communications needs for Global Product by working cross-functionally with all branches of Global Corporate Affairs & Marketing to ensure collaboration and delivery of impactful internal and external communications leadership.
• Operating in a highly cross-functional environment and in tight coordination with the Global Media Center for Excellence, support the development and implementation of multi-channel, multi-audience external communications plans and tactics in support of global product
• Partner across the business to create compelling and creative external communications collateral in support of business priorities (e.g. write web content, craft short scripts, write compelling stories, liaise with creative team, source content from others)
• Serve as a key collaborator and bridge to other Community/Product Managers in Corporate Affairs/Marketing to ensure that priority Global Product content and messaging is repurposed and appropriately tailored for different external audiences (i.e. customers, parents, educators) and channels (e.g. trade media, education media)
• Liaise with employee communications manager to ensure that key external messages are repurposed and socialized internally
• Support the conceptualization of external events and event collateral in support of business priorities
• Partner with the one.com team to ensure that global product areas of business are accurately represented and that content is up to date and refreshed as needed; leverage insights to inform content decisions.
Deliverables:
• Execution: Develop and maintain project management systems/processes, and deliver external communications tactics in support of the global product communications plan and in collaboration with other partners in Global Corporate Affairs and Marketing.
• Cross-function / Client Services: Work cross-functionally with employee communications, global product marketing teams, global marketing teams, and corporate affairs to ensure collaboration and delivery of impactful internal and external communications.
• Insights-driven Communications: Support the implementation and tracking of an insights-based approach to assessing the impact of messaging, as well as other communications strategies and tactics.
• Creativity & Content Creation: Provide support for sourcing content from across the global product organization, and for developing that content into creative and compelling external communications and events collateral (i.e. research findings, product stories about key capabilities, learner stories etc.).
• Product Communications: In coordination with Global Product teams, support the delivery of targeted external product communications plans as needed.
Qualifications
• 7 years’ experience in communications, strategy, research & development communications, or product communications
• Experience in managing, tracking and reporting on a portfolio of projects.
• Proven experience in messaging complex ideas and topics, and translating such ideas into creative and compelling collateral
• Strong writing skills required
• Collaboration: Work cross-functionally and collaboratively to drives a consistent message which showcases and solidifies the Pearson brand
• Track record in developing and executing audience strategies and messaging ((e.g. shareholders, media and employees), and managing the implementation of communications with and through channel/audience owners
• Customer Obsessed: Being audience centric (customer, learner) vs. Pearson centric in the development of strategies and messaging
• Insights-led: Utilizing data and fact-based tools to influence decision making / Experience in developing required tracking systems to organize insights for use by leadership.
• Global-local: Developing global strategies to be adopted and adapted by local teams
