Sun Sentinel is seeking a Packaging Planning Coordinator to join our team!
Organizes the scheduling of advertising inserts with production, processes data and coordinates the handling of bulk mail in order to ensure that the highest levels of productivity, quality and customer service are maintained. Utilizes SAM Planning and Sam Tracks Warehouse Management systems. Coordinate and communicates across various newspaper sites, updates, changes, or problems with the flow of data between SAM, the Advertising order entry, and Circulation DISCUS systems.
Responsibilities:
• Effectively maintain Packaging Planning and Warehouse Systems insuring accurate production of the Sun-Sentinel, Orlando Sentinel, Palm Beach Post, Forum Publications, New York Times, USA Today and El Sentinel newspapers.
• Maintain and promote the close working relationship between Advertising, Operations and Circulation management providing statistical reports on FSI performance for all packages produced. Communicate effectively with operations managers and co-workers on any matters that may impact production and/or distribution of product, and report to the appropriate manager other matters that require attention.
• Manage the accurate press ordering and communication of production runs.
• To process and distribute all information required for the proper insertion of preprint and we-print products into the Sun-Sentinel and current commercial publications.
• To develop and maintain management reports using production data for analysis of volume, productivity and quality to be utilized for strategic planning and budgeting purposes.
• To coordinate with Packaging, advertising and Circulation to resolve issues related to quantities of insert materials received, shortages of insert materials and late entries and/or deliveries of insert materials. Make decisions and recommend alternatives to management.
• To develop a system for auditing insert shortages, press orders, circulation draws and final production reconciliation to analyze data for the purpose of maximizing revenue, identifying cost reduction opportunities and improving reliability and quality.
• To coordinate all bulk mail distribution including solo mail, subscription mailing, alternate delivery and commercial products. Ensure all mailing are in accordance with U.S. Postal regulations and respond to postal inquiries. Create and generate reports for postal accounting.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Manager
Qualifications:
• Typically requires an undergraduate degree or equivalent experience. Must possess strong analytical, organizational and communication skills and have 2-3 years experience in a production environment in a planning or supervisory capacity.
• Must have an in-depth knowledge of packaging operations and an overall knowledge of the newspaper production process.
• Requires skills in the use of personal computers and the use of current word processing and spreadsheet programs.
• A thorough knowledge of U.S. Postal regulations is required.
