Purpose
• Support the Technical and Statistical Intelligence team with all aspects of data and statistical analysis, research and modelling, as required
• Learn and develop a deep understanding of statistical modelling and psychometrics
• Translate and present data in a meaningful way for use in both awarding qualifications and in post-results monitoring reports
• Assist in the production of statistical analyses for the interpretation of qualification outcomes.
Key Accountabilities
Statistical/Research Function:
• ensure that all analyses are completed to schedule and to a high quality
• coordinate and prepare reports associated with post-examination evaluation analyses
• contribute to the discussion on the design and adaptation of pre-test and examination structures to ensure that information needs are met.
• participate in the research of assessment methodologies and predictive models using available software packages.
Policy and Planning
• to support the Senior Manager/Head of TSI in discussions within Pearson, and where necessary, with other Awarding Bodies and external agencies relating to data analysis issues, implementing inter-board agreements and changes in procedures in line with Pearson policy.
Procedures Management
• to assist in the monitoring of the examining and awarding process to ensure all agreed procedures are adhered to
Quality Management
• to assist in the monitoring and evaluation of assessment and other procedures so that potential areas of difficulty are foreseen and the requirements of the Regulator are met.
• To take part in evaluation studies for new examinations, as agreed.
Contributing to the broader work of the TSI team
• Working with TSI team members on specific projects as directed by the Senior Manager/Head of TSI to enable team members to;
◦ respond to the wide range of demands placed on the team
◦ develop a high level of skill, experience and expertise, particularly in the field of psychometric analysis
◦ design and document technical and statistical guidelines for the efficient production of required data and analyses;
Overview
The Technical and Statistical Intelligence (TSI) team provides the authoritative source of technical information for internal and external stakeholders on quantitative data thus providing technical and statistical support for the awarding of both GQ and VQ qualifications. This includes the preparation and evaluation of statistical data to ensure the effective running of the examination process and the maintenance of subject, year-on-year and inter-board comparability. The responsibilities of the team are subject to change as the requirements of the Government and the Regulator inevitably change. Team members must, therefore, be flexible in their approach to the role.
The TSI team are logical, analytic problem-solvers. Data is at the core of everything we do – providing analyses and intelligence to other teams who make fair, defendable decisions more widely across the business. We support the business and assist in strategic decision-making, and implementing regulatory and Pearson policy, ensuring all requirements are met
Qualifications
Experience
Essential:
• Excellent data and Statistical analysis skills, clear and concise report writing
Desirable:
• Knowledge of the UK education system
Education, Qualifications and Attitudes
Essential:
• 2.1 or above in a numerate degree including standard statistical techniques.
Desirable:
• Higher degree involving statistics or mathematics
IT Literacy
Essential:
• Competent user of word processor (Word), spreadsheets (Excel), databases (eg ACCESS). Advanced user of SPSS or similar statistical package
Desirable:
• Experience of IRT/Rasch software (eg WINSTEPS, Conquest, RUMM)
Working pattern - 37.5 hours per week
