We are seeking an enthusiastic, well organized Editorial Assistant to join the Journal Development team in supporting editorial transfers across the journals published at BioMed Central.
The Editorial Assistant will have the unique purview of being at the center of nearly all fields of research covered by journals published at BioMed Central. The role is a key part of our commitment to Authors and Editors. Transfers help authors find the right journal for their manuscripts while helping streamline the review process for the Editors that participate in the program.
The Editorial Assistant will provide essential strategic, creative and administrative support to our Journal Development teams in helping identify opportunities for subject area development for the transfers service, assessing transfer offers and uptake, improving our communications and engagement with Authors and Editors, and regularly reporting on transfers activity to our team. This person will also provide practical day to day support for existing editorially guided transfer cascades within appropriate subject clusters. We are seeking candidates interested in understanding and learning about Open Access, publishing workflows, and who want to take on projects that help promote, improve and expand this very valuable service to our Authors and Editors.
Main Duties
• Supporting the editorial teams through the management and growth of current transfers
• Liaising with departments across BioMed Central and Springer Nature to understand and support the objectives of the transfer service.
• Manage editorially guided transfers on a day to day basis
• Take on projects that help promote transfers, engage Authors, and market the service to Editors.
• Proactively recommending changes to workflows as needed.
• Producing reports on various aspects of transfer service.
• Reporting and tracking technical problems with technical support teams.
Person specification
Essential
• Educated to degree level in biology or biomedical sciences.
• Strong administrative and organizational skills.
• Creative problem solving and analytical skills.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• A high level of computer literacy with experience of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work well under pressure and to deadlines.
