U.S. News & World Report’s Consumer Advice team seeks a full-time digital producer to manage the Money, Health, Real Estate and Travel pages on usnews.com, assist with launching Best Jobs, Best Diets, Best Places and other products and produce daily content such as articles and slideshows. Other responsibilities include helping staff troubleshoot a variety of technical issues, selecting and editing photos, creating engaging infographics and videos and promoting content on social media. The ideal candidate will be a proven problem solver who can juggle myriad responsibilities in a fast-paced journalism environment. You should also be comfortable with content management systems and working closely with a small production team. Please note this is an entry-level position located in Washington, D.C.
Responsibilities:
• Update content on Money, Health, Real Estate and Travel pages
• Monitor section pages for problems, and correct them if they exist
• Produce Money, Health, Real Estate and Travel articles
• Build Money, Health, Real Estate and Travel slideshows
• Select and edit photos
• Create infographics to accompany stories or project launches
• Use video editing platforms to build informative videos that support our content
• Pitch in with problems or special requests from team members
• Prepare content, page components and build new pages in advance of project launches
• Promote section content on social media
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
• Proficient in HTML/CSS, Photoshop and basic web production tasks
• Experience using content management systems
• Ease using Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Google web apps or equivalent software
• Familiarity with video-editing software
• Experience creating informative infographics
• An eye for selecting engaging, appropriate photos to accompany our content
• The ability to meet deadlines and handle several tasks simultaneously
• General understanding and knowledge of U.S. News rankings projects
• Exemplary communication, critical thinking and organization skills
• A demonstrated understanding of and interest in social media
• Curious and self-motivated to continue learning on the job
• Journalism experience, including editorial judgment and a familiarity with AP style, is a plus
• Up-to-date knowledge on Internet publishing and metrics, with an acute understanding of SEO, is a plus
• Familiarity with data visualization tools is a plus
• An understanding of basic design principles is a plus
• Must thrive working in a small team setting and with the same team members daily
• About 1-2 years of web production or related experience
• College degree or equivalent
