Job Summary:
The Accounting Manager will oversee the finance and accounting functions of the Finance department at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Responsibilities include supervising department staff, monitoring the monthly close process, issuing monthly financial statements, preparing event settlements, preparing budget reports, and a variety of other financial reports.
The incumbent will be responsible for a variety of daily and monthly financial accounting duties including account reconciliations and analysis, preparation of journal entries and related monthly close documents, financial records maintenance and monthly financial reporting at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The position requires solid knowledge of accounting principles and experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Reconcile and analyze GL accounts including bank accounts, accounts receivable, prepaids, accounts payable, accrued liabilities, deferred revenue accounts and other accounts as required
• Directly supervise the Senior Accountant and Staff Accountant
• Booking and reconciliation of event settlements
• Oversee and manage the month-end and year-end closing process.
• Monitor department progress toward meeting various deadlines.
• Manage and maintain internal controls and compliance in Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Box Office/Ticketing. Maintain compliance for tax reporting purposes.
• Supervise the process of recording of journal entries and oversee various finance related processes (fixed assets, payroll, etc.) to ensure accounting records are complete and accurate.
• Review and/or prepare bank reconciliations, account reconciliations and other analyses as needed.
• Oversee and thoroughly review monthly financial results and internal reporting requirements
• Manage various functions in finance including booking and reconciliation of Box Office and Ticketmaster activity
• Process & distribute financial reports as required
• Ability to define & improve efficiencies
• Provide oversight, direction, and assistance as needed for both internal and external audits
• Ensure compliance with department policies and procedures as well as 404 compliance
• Ensure department policies & procedures are followed
• Developing and implementing improved accounting policies and procedures
• Perform other accounting and general office duties as required
• Perform and manage show-related activities – settlements, accounting, and event reporting.
• Partner with HR and the Payroll Department to ensure payroll is processed and recorded accurately.
• Assist Vice President, Finance and other facility personnel as requested.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The successful candidate will have skill in personnel management, developing and implementing policies and procedures, effective training, and designing and implementing accounting, financial and human resources systems and controls.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Strong organizational, analytical and problem solving skills
• Proficient knowledge of MS Office Software, particularly in Excel (including pivot table & vlookup functions)
• Proficient knowledge of accounting software systems, JD Edwards Enterprise One experience a plus
• Ability to communicate to executive leadership as it relates to finance and operation activities
• Capable of handling all aspects of the accounting cycle and principles and techniques of arena operations.
• Ability to be flexible and redirect focus of priorities if needed
• Attention to detail while working under pressure to meet deadlines
• Ability to work independently and complete duties and projects with minimal supervision
• Ability to work extended hours as needed to accommodate monthly, quarterly and year-end closings
Education/Experience:
• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance Required, CPA required
• 5 – 7 years of progressively increasing responsibility in a fast paced accounting/finance department. Experience in the facilities/arena management industry a major plus.
• Minimum of 5 years of public accounting and/or financial accounting experience
