Responsibilities
Responsible for the day-to-day operations of a segment of the merchandise assortment. Responsible for creating innovative product that supports the department’s vision.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Seeks out and develops new and innovative product, packaging, treatments and technologies. Initiates continuous product sourcing for international and domestic vendors to find resources to reduce cost of goods, minimum order quantities, and increase the flow of goods.
• Develops assortment plans and sku counts by department that will drive revenue while minimizing inventory risks. Manages merchandise products by monitoring and managing product life cycles. Establishes product assortments to locations.
• Partners with the Merchandise Assistant to address inventory liquidation. Partners with Planning to monitor and maintain the category(s) financial plans. Responsible for achieving the category(s) financial plans.
• Responsible for training and development of Associate Buyer.
Qualifications/Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Preferred thorough knowledge of creative product development, vendor sourcing, and merchandise strategic planning.
• Specialty retail background (i.e., apparel, giftware, imports, or character merchandise) is highly preferred.
EDUCATION: High school degree or GED required. Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Merchandising or a related field preferred.
EXPERIENCE: 3-5 Years: Required retail buying and product development experience within a high-profile retail organization; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
