Responsibilities
KDEN Telemundo in Denver is seeking a News Writer/Assignment Desk Editor to join our award-winning team. Candidate will be responsible for successfully writing news stories for publication and broadcast. Review and evaluates written or recorded notes obtained from reporting staff based on facts or details. Candidate will help in the assignment desk as needed.
Functions/Responsibilities:
• Conceptualize , write and edit Spanish language nightly news promotion
• Coordinate script and storyline with correct video sources and graphics for news briefs
• Produce and write breaking-news promotion under tight deadlines
• Work closely with news EP and Producers to determine news of day and find most compelling stories to promote to Telemundo Denver audience.
• Work closely with the rest of the Creative Services Department and support Telemundo station events and promotion.
Qualifications/Requirements
• Must be able to speak, read and write fluently in Spanish and must be able to speak, read and understand English.
• Writing Experience in Spanish is a must. Good grammar skills in Spanish language.
• Candidate will also help building lower thirds for the stories he/she writes.
• Excellent news judgment, creative ideas and writing skills a must.
• Must have leadership qualities, be detail oriented, organized and able to handle intense deadline pressure.
• Candidate will help in the assignment desk when needed. There will be a need for good organization and judgment skills for news gathering and be able to contact the community, public information officers and media representatives. Set up interviews as needed.

• Able to work long hours, varying shifts (including nights and weekends) and report to work in emergencies depending upon news coverage when necessary.
• Must be willing to submit to a background investigation.

• Must be 18 years or older.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
Desired Characteristics
Take an active role in selecting the stories of the day – come up with story ideas that reporters can turn in one day, create producer driven content to enhance our coverage of the big story and other stories that appear in the newscast.
• Anticipate problems and address them throughout the course of the shift, eliminate all factual/spelling/other errors that appear in the show. If a problem arises, address it immediately. Follow up problems with those involved and a newsroom manager.
• Bring creativity into every aspect of the newscast, use the Telemundo arsenal of tools and equipment to provide the most current information that is geographically diverse and maximizes viewer benefits.
• News judgment with solid ethical decision process.
