The Information Technology team develops and maintains Bell’s internal systems and applications while also developing integrated technology solutions for customers across all lines of business.
The team manages Bell’s IT Infrastructure and the service availability of over 700 applications, including mission critical billing and service systems. The IT delivery teams drive the IT Work Program with over 60% of IT capital invested in initiatives that support business unit priorities and Bell’s strategic imperatives.
Big Data is one of the fastest growing business and technology disciplines. Specifically in Telecom, there are great opportunities to utilize Big Data and advanced analytics solutions to evolve network planning and operations and prepare for the future network.
Bell’s Network Big Data Centre of Excellence is a newly formed team focused on utilizing Big Data and advanced analytics technologies to help Bell maintain the “Best Network” standing as well as evolve the Bell Network to support advanced solutions.
Roles & Responsibilities:
• Apply technical experience and leadership in technical solutions design and development (e.g., reliability, scalability, integrity, cost effectiveness, security, availability, ease of maintenance and operations etc.).
• Participate in analyzing the various Hadoop, Streaming and IOT cluster infrastructures to identify optimization opportunities and/or provide and execute upgrade recommendations.
• Maintain the communication with vendors, other use case resources and customers during all phases of the ingestion and consumption.
• Act as system analyst for projects or use cases which are infrastructure-focused.
• Act as project manager for small and medium projects when the scope focuses on technical operational implementations.
• Act as deployment prime when implementing OS, security and administration solutions into the various environments after ensuring that system tests were completed successfully.
• Ensure the end-to-end technical integrity of the designed solutions.
• Provides 1st and 2nd level support and coordinates 3rd-level support with vendors, as required.
• Participate in all aspects of Big Data solution delivery life cycle including analysis, design, development, testing, production deployment, and support.
• Develop standardized practices for delivering new products and capabilities using Big Data technologies.
• Responsible of the various cluster’s security, passwords and logins.
• Train and mentor teams in the use of the fundamental components in the Hadoop stack.
• Troubleshoot issues within the various cluster’s environments.
• Performance tuning of a Hadoop processes and applications.
• Strong communication, technology awareness and capability to interact work with senior technology leaders is a must.
• Delivery of high-quality work, on time and with little supervision
• Critical Thinking/Analytic abilities
Requirements:
• Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
• 8+ years IT technical experience holding similar R&Rs as above, preferably in a wireless telecom environment.
• Deep knowledge of multiple server technologies such as Unix, Linux, Windows, blades, OpenStack, Orchestration, NFV and SDN.
• Very good knowledge of Cloudera Manager and the Hadoop ecosystem.
• Deep knowledge and extensive experience with the Windows & Linux server environments.
• Very good knowledge and experience with environments such as Cisco UCS.
• Deep knowledge and practice of consolidation, virtualization (VMWare) and High Availability and clustering solutions (Veritas, Red Hat, Centos etc.).
• Practical experience and knowledge in end-to-end delivery of Big Data / Hadoop solutions.
• Experience with Veritas, Oracle, MySQL, MS-SQL and Data-Guard environments.
• Very good Knowledge and practice of networking, routing and IP schemas and methodology.
• Experience with Enterprise Storage Technologies (SAN, NAS, Replication, Storage Libraries, Amazon S3, etc.).
• Deep Knowledge of Citrix.
• Hands-on experience with the various security layers such as: Active Directory, Sentry, Centrify, etc...
• Very good knowledge of Visio, Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
• Autonomous and energetic individual.
• Good business acumen to ensure technical solutions are created with business focus.
Preferred Skills:
• Bilingual (French/English) who has the capacity to adapt his communication to most of the situations and audience. Proficient in planning his communications, facilitating a meeting or workshop;
• Able to proactively plan his/her work over multiple timeframes – week-months-year and juggle multiple priorities and deliver as per commitments;
• Able to plan and execute complex tasks without supervision, identify potential roadblocks and mobilise resources to remove them and achieve goals;
• Able to identify and analyze complex problem, identify root cause, provide detailed description and plan, design and deliver workaround/solution;
• Capable to evaluate without supervision the effort & time required to complete a deliverable and/or task thru collaboration, teamwork, honesty, commitment and respect;
• Comfortable interviewing non-technical people to gather/discuss requirements;
• Gets easily acquainted to new technologies.
• Wireless/Telecom Operations and Engineering business Knowledge including basic understanding of Radio access, Core network and Value added Services technologies and configurations.
• Good knowledge on Agile Methodology and the Scrum process
