Purpose
Commissioning international curriculum product for global markets
Key Accountabilities
The International Curriculum Publishing team is seeking a Commissioning Editor to join our team, to develop innovative and market-appropriate resources for global schools markets. The successful candidate for this exciting role will be responsible for researching, commissioning and delivering on time and to budget our ambitious publishing plan, with an emphasis on digital content. Key series include: Pearson Bacclaureate, Edexcel International GCSE and Edexcel International A Level. Some travel to regional conferences and international schools is required.
You will research, commission and oversee an extensive range of publishing projects up to editorial handover, manage the financial performance of the list and contribute to ongoing team publishing strategy. You will take responsibility for a portfolio of projects in the 2015-6 publishing plan, carrying out the necessary research, making project proposals, managing authors and conducting financial assessments as required, and implement an effective publishing plan for 2016-17.
• Research market(s) and competition
• Make sound and strategic investment proposals with a focus on digital and multimedia content
• Contribute to and implement effective strategy for list
• Manage financial performance of list
• Identify, commission and manage authors and advisers
• Maintain overview of editorial, design, technical and production aspects of your projects through all stages
• Work with key stakeholders and customers in our global regions.
• Represent Pearson at appropriate conferences and stakeholder events in global regions, travelling as required.
Qualifications
Essential
• Demonstrable experience of digital and print publishing business
• Experience of managing author relationships
• Understanding of, and ability to assess, project financials and profitability
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• Organisation, self-motivation, flexibility and the ability to work independently
• A good and demonstrable level of competence in MS Office including Excel
• Experience of working in international schools markets
• Experience of acquiring/commissioning materials in print and digital format for publication.
• Background in education or educational publishing
• Understanding of various platforms, digital solutions and the opportunities/limitations of these for the educational resources market
• Experience of strategic planning and market research
• Strong presentation skills
• Accustomed to work travel
• Experience of using Google docs/Gmail/Google Drive.
• Significant editorial experience, with some commissioning experience
Desirable
• Experience of working in international schools markets
