Purpose of the role:
To plan and manage all aspects of Macmillan Education’s business in Thailand, growing our presence, capability and revenue.
Responsibilities:
Planning:
• Develop a comprehensive growth strategy and roadmap for Thailand, based on the review of existing footprint, capabilities, and practices, and prioritized opportunities in the region leading to the 2015 ASEAN Economic Community integration. Use the 2016 3YP as a starting point.
• Set short term (1 year) and mid-term (3 years) growth goals and metrics, and required resources and capabilities.
• Include ELT, Higher Education and Curriculum product groups.
Sales management:
• Directly manage all sales and marketing staff in the Thailand office.
• Manage sales of ELT, Higher Education and Curriculum products.
• Every month, submit to the line manager a monthly territorial action plan detailing planned actions that will result in the achievement of the allocated individual sales target and other targets set by the line manager. In the plan, align visiting strategies with planned product promotions, coordinate sales activities with local partners and distributors, participate in and/or hold appropriate promotional events and list target institutions and visiting strategies for each.
• Responsible for setting targets, managing performance and regularly reviewing commercial terms with distributors and partners, ensuring both revenue and profit growth.
• Review, recommend and implement necessary changes to network of distributors in Thailand (initially and on an ongoing basis as business grows).
• Set prices and manage a healthy balance of top line and gross margin growth for both paper and digital products.
• Identify effective marketing and sponsorship events or initiatives in the region to support sales and brand building.
• Utilize the CRM data-base to both report on activity performance of the sales team and build market leads.
• Build and report on progress towards key objectives through a management Dashboard that all team members own and activity contribute to.
Budgeting and forecasting:
• Responsible for Thailand rolled-up budget/ P&L. Working with the line manager and Regional Finance Director, lead individual cost centre budgeting including the Revised Forecasts and 3-year-forecast process.
• Maximize sales and achieve agreed budget targets for each distributor.
• Provide monthly reports including narrative of budget variances and outlook.
• Work with country teams, editorial and other colleagues in completing various product specific forecasts.
Staff management:
• Provide goal-setting, performance evaluation and feedback to all staff managed.
• In collaboration with the new regional HR manager, develop training, retention and development plans appropriate for staff and business needs in the region.
• Day-to-day management of staff and ensure a professional, motivating and healthy work environment.
Others:
• Carry out any other duties assigned by supervisor.
Requirements:
• 5+ years’ experience in managing sales, marketing and operational aspects of ELT content development or instruction/education service delivery, especially in Asian countries.
• University degree or above. MBA, Masters in Management, MA, MSc, preferred but not essential.
• Fluent in English and Thai.
• Proven ability to develop and execute a strategic plan, with attention to day-to-day operational effectiveness.
• Experience of setting and managing, delivering budgets.
• Maturity and self-assuredness in working in a semi “start up” and less structured environment initially; ability to shape priorities and plan and focus on the most important issues.
• A keen understanding of growth drivers, regulatory issues and other market dynamics of the Thailand education and language learning markets.
• Strong leadership skills in managing and influencing team members who may be based remotely.
• Superb communication and presentation skills (both verbal and written).
• Interest and ability to mentor and develop others.
