Springer UK Computer Science is an editorial group, acquiring and publishing scientific books and journals. We are part of the global Computer Science division whose primary locations are based in London, Heidelberg and New York.
The position of editorial assistant provides a great opportunity to work on an exciting range of academic titles, taking them from inception through to publication. You will be part of a small and dynamic team and will work on a variety of projects, interacting closely with internal departments across the company including production, marketing and sales. You will liaise with both internal and external customers, and particularly with authors and editors from across the world
Responsibilities
• working on internal systems to ensure complete and accurate information on all projects are recorded and updated
• maintain regular contact with authors and editors to manage manuscript delivery to agreed deadlines
• respond to general author queries including manuscript, copyright, production, royalty issues
• prepare correct paperwork for payments to series editors, reviewers, etc
• analyse and prepare manuscripts for production, and liaise with the production team throughout the process
• liaise closely with other departments including sales and marketing, IT, exhibits, finance and reporting
• coordinate with internal and external contacts for conference attendence and set-up
• create and prepare book- and series-specific marketing materials
• Reseasrch for conferences and finding reviewers etc
• Managing and finding content for company social media sites.
Essential
• educated to degree level or equivalent, preferably in a science-related subject
• excellent English-language skills, both written and verbal
• strong organisational skills with attention to detail
• high level of computer literacy
• ability to work to tight deadlines and manage several projects simultaneously
Desirable
• previous publishing experience
• copy-editing/proof-reading skills
• previous administrative experience
