General Summary
Under the direction of the VP Global Security (based in Culver City, CA), further establish and enhance this function throughout the LATAM region. Provide leadership, strategic direction, tactical support and innovative solutions to unique, spontaneous and critical business issues that influence the safety, security and well-being of employees, as well as protecting SPE’s physical and intellectual assets. Serve as key contact and advisor.
Role
Based in Miami, this role is part of the Security, Environmental, Health and Safety organization (SEHS). SEHS has global responsibility for Corporate Security, Business Continuity, Crisis Management and Health & Safety.
Latin America (LATAM) Security
This position provides day-to-day operations management and oversight of issues involving security operations, security incident investigations, risk assessments, site/building security monitoring, and access control across the LATAM region.
This position supports regional business offices and staff to ensure the security of staff, assets and operations across the region. The role is engaged in the development and management of security measures supporting new and existing SPE facilities. The position is also responsible for ensuring adherence with security standards and reporting on adherence through creation of security metrics. The role is responsible for coordinating with and supporting other functions within SEHS. The role requires frequent travel and may require extended working hours and non-business day working during crisis and special events. The incumbent is responsible for developing and maintaining strong relationships within region with key business partners.
In addition to regional responsibilities, the candidate is responsible for supporting global security projects and initiatives. This requires involvement in managing projects, developing security metrics and analytics, analyzing data, developing processes that identify and mitigate risk and providing reporting on how those risks have been mitigated. The responsibilities associated with this portion of the position require deep analytical skills, the ability to identify, articulate and manage risk, excellent written skills and the ability to create and deliver presentations. This resource works across functions to support our partners and stakeholders in the delivery of their initiatives. The position is responsible for maintaining strong relationships with global security team members as well as with key partners and stakeholders globally.
Key Responsibilities
• Manage LATAM security issues including: physical security, access control, site risk assessments, regional security investigations and incident response/management
• Management/oversight of a manager of security and safety based in Miami
• Provide security and safety support for events and executive/talent visits including coordination of staff and vendors as well as on-site presence
• Responsible for the selection of 3rd parties to provide said services related to security and safety
• Collate and analyze data that identifies risk and produce reports to aid in mitigation strategies in conjunction with SEHS’s Global Threat Management and Intelligence unit
• Manage projects, develop presentations and create risk metrics
• Define and document security procedures
• Assist in management of all security staff in region, vendors and Control Centre personnel
• Develop risk acceptances and plans to address based on identified security risks
• Partner with business leaders across LATAM to ensure that the security program is well socialized and designed to meet the needs of the business
• Respond to requests for assistance with security issues
• Oversee and manage local vendors, including the acquisition of new vendors as necessary
• Represent the Global Security organization at appropriate security meetings/forums internally and throughout the region.
• Maintain strong ties with law enforcement officials to ensure SPE is able to respond appropriately to events or crises.
• Oversee and deliver security risk assessments that are in line with our corporate policy to ensure that SPE assets are properly protected at sites within the region.
• Provide advice and support to SPE and the Incident Assessment Team around documented and known risks
• React and advise on regional security developments and security incidents
• Manage all aspects of guarding service to ensure that the Security officers are both efficient and effective in their roles which include:
• Controlling the physical access of personnel to SPE sites in region
• Controlling internal access to sensitive areas within SPE
• Reporting on alarm monitoring and CCTV monitoring
• Provide physical security recommendations for new design/build projects of office space and other SPE facilities.
• Ensure that appropriate security policies, procedures and training are established across the region to address threats and ensure these protocols are reviewed on a regular basis.
• Promote security awareness and instill a culture of collective and individual responsibilities for practicing good security at all times.
• Create and deliver security training to employees and security staff.
Knowledge/Experience/Requirements
• Must have proficient language skills in both English and Spanish. Although fluency in Portuguese is preferred, it is not required.
• Deep analytical skills and ability to document and report on security related risks
• The ability to think beyond operational security measures; instead core focus will be on defining and mitigating security risk
• Requires experience evaluating and designing physical security measures and managing corporate security metrics
• Experience in corporate security or relevant experience in the public sector/law enforcement, preferably in a planning capacity.
• Requires in-depth experience interacting with senior management.
• The role requires a hands-on approach with business experience to manage and be accountable for P&L, performance metrics, and process improvement. Attention to detail is vitally important.
• University degree preferred or equivalent work experience required
• Industry certifications are preferred, but not required
• Typically, 10 years of industrial security experience
