Character Artist (Temporary)
The Team:
Artworks is the central content creation group for the EA Sports Label, developing high end visual content (characters, environments, props, FX, lighting, etc.). We partner closely with the studio Game Teams in co-development for all of the sports titles developed across EA Canada and Tiburon. Artworks prides itself in delivering large volumes of high quality art assets while consistently striving for improvements in visuals, tools, process and workflow.
What a Character Artist does at EA:
The life of a character artist is a critical component in video game creation. They fill the world of an alternate reality with the population that brings the game to life with fantastic characters, imposing bosses and unique creations. They are the art director’s best friend and the goto person, in many instances, for that last minute update. There’s no telling what task will be needed next, so a Character Artist should be a dynamic, swift and efficient modeler with strong texturing skills and an imagination in constant motion. Someone who is not afraid to get dirty and dives into work that others turn away from. Speedy, yet meticulous.
The next great EA Character Artist also needs:
• Experience in modeling and texturing objects using Maya, Zbrush and Photoshop is required
• Able to follow direction, learn the process and apply it, grow and learn from mistakes
• An exceptional eye for detail
• A good understanding of form, shape, structure, and silhouette in regards to modeling
• A solid understanding of color, shades and detail in creating painted texture maps
• Self motivated, a good communicator, and a great teamplayer attitude
• Someone who understands the distinctive visual style and is mindful and passionate to push it to the next level
• Someone who is willing to expand on their skill set into other areas of 3D
Portfolio Requirements:
• Only digital applications will be accepted such as a website, blog or online album. Physical media will not be accepted
Pluses:
• 3d Character work experience in film or games
• Experience with stylized Character work
• Knowledge of character rigging
