The Role
The Manager of Localization QC will provide innovative leadership in driving and scaling the translation quality of the language assets for our Original content, redefine industry standards and practices, develop and utilize proprietary metrics and tools, and leverage a network of in-territory translators and linguists. S/he should be comfortable working autonomously in a fast-paced environment, taking initiative, managing multiple projects, and working with vendors, partners, and cross-functional teams to find creative and efficient solutions under tight time-frames.
The Responsibilities
• Provide strong leadership and set a strategic vision for the localization QC team while ensuring excellent tactical execution
• Identify and address gaps in our cross-functional localization process leveraging automation, engineering, and strong cross-functional partnerships to drive quality of our Originals’ assets
• Partner with Content Localization team to provide clear quality standards and data on all secondary language assets including subtitles, dub audio, captioning, SDH, Audio Description and forced narratives.
• Maintain and update our language style guides to ensure highest quality and alignment with in-territory traditions and theatrical expectations.
• Track tactical and high-level metrics to identify and diagnose trends, patterns, and problems around the localization quality of our shows/partners/vendors/translators
• Work with content localization team to understand and support creative intent and ensure consistency of content themes, humor and characters through effective monitoring of translations.
• Design a scalable approach to defining and messaging quality standards across network of in-territory linguists and translators
• Develop and execute against a plan for ensuring high quality from new territories and new languages while delivering against theatrical expectations
• Make sound independent decisions and know when to escalate issues
• Advocate, understand and communicate the company’s values
The Right Stuff
• 7+ years in content localization or international versioning for theatrical and premium TV services
• Prior team management experience required
• Solid understanding of consumer expectations regarding audio and video assets, captioning, subtitling and dubbing in the markets that Netflix serves
• Innovative approach to problem solving and quality control
• Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to cultivate internal and external relationships and work effectively cross-functionally
