The Charity currently receives over 4,000 applications for funding and awards c.1200 grants to a total value of c.50m per year.
We are now looking to appoint a Regional Head for the London and South East to be based in London on a fixed term contract to cover maternity leave.

Children in Need are now looking for a Head of Assurance, Quality and Risk, for a maternity cover to lead the assurance of all key aspects of grant-making, including grant assessment, decision-making and reporting in BBC Children in Need.
Role Responsibility
The Head of Assurance, Quality and Risk will lead, manage and motivate the team responsible for assurance, quality and risk in accordance with agreed business requirements and foster an open, enabling and ambitious culture within the team. You will oversee all key aspects of BBC Children in Needs grant-making, including assessment, decision-making and reporting processes, and take the lead on assuring the quality, rigour and robustness of these on an ongoing basis. You will oversee the management of our grant portfolio across the UK, ensuring that it is managed proactively and effectively, and that agreed grant management indicators are reliably implemented.
The Head of Assurance, Quality and Risk will also ensure an enabling and positive culture in our interaction with potential applicants, applicants and grantees by working with senior colleagues in each nation and region, establishing appropriate levels of consistency in the organisations grant-making across the UK. You will also establish and oversee a peer review process for grant-making which will assist in quality benchmarking and in the development of common principles to support grant-making across nations and regions. You will act as the primary interface with the Central Operations team in relation to their role in providing operational support for grant-making and will lead on the development of grant-making products and materials.
In addition, the Head of Assurance, Quality and Risk will develop and monitor performance metrics for grant-making across BBC Children in Need. You will foster a culture of excellence, ambition, openness and development across our grant-making teams by developing induction, support and training of staff across the organisation.
You will also be expected to maintain a positive, informed and proactive ethos in relation to identification and response to risk in grant-making by ensuring that policies and processes to manage risk and to maintain compliance in relation to grant-making and grant management are fit for purpose. You will also maintain an overview of all serious allegations, complaints and investigations concerning grants in management and ensure these are addressed effectively and recorded appropriately.
The Ideal Candidate
Essentially, the Head of Assurance, Quality and Risk at Children in Need will have strong experience and excellent understanding of grant-making at an operational and strategic level within the UK. You will have a proven ability to work at strategic level with excellent knowledge of the voluntary and community sector and/or the children and young peoples field. It is also essential that you are an outstanding communicatior and team worker. You will be a subject knowledge expert in understanding risk in grant-making environment. You must also possess a proven ability of communicating with a wide range of stakeholders and be an ambassador for continuous improvement towards excellence.
