Overview and Responsibilities
In this role, the ideal candidate will join an exciting new department at Viacom (Audience Strategy Insight & Innovation) that touches all of the hottest topics in the TV research industry today… big data, data visualization, predictive content/show analytics, total cross-platform consumption and forecasting, and most importantly, translation of data into new products, visuals, tools, and insights. As a Full Stack Engineer, you will work closely with our data scientists and product architects to design/build out a web-based platform to host and visually display our integrated data assets and analytical algorithms, as well as develop out the front-end visualization of the platform for use of our research/marketing stakeholders.
Core Responsibilities
Our new and exciting team is looking for an experienced Full Stack Engineer with a passion for story telling, out-of-the-box thinking, problem solving, as well as experience in big data, compelling visualizations, and web-platform architecture. The Full Stack Engineer will work with a tight product team consisting of TV experts who will define the business cases, and data scientists who will model the data for continuous insights and solutions. The primary role of the Developer/Engineer will be to lead the design and development of a web-based, data-driven research tool that will pull disparate data sets from the cloud, integrate advanced statistical algorithms, bring our data/analytics to life, and to tell stories for the front-end user. More specifically, core responsibilities will include:
• Work collaboratively with our Data Scientists and Product Innovation Architects to connect business use cases, to data and analytics, to compelling visuals and stories:
◦ Design and develop the backend architecture for our custom platform infrastructure (pulling multiple data assets from a cloud environment, ingesting underlying statistical algorithms, and developing a multi-layer data tool)
◦ Build out a strong front-end experience including interactive dashboards, and solid visualizations to translate the data into a story
◦ Maintain the ongoing growth of the platform to accommodate ongoing real-time feeds / refreshes of data assets, time series analyses and predictive forecasting, metric development
◦ Build out a weekly automated reporting system within the platform infrastructure
• Understand all types of data sets (e.g., metered measurement data, other syndicated data, survey data, social data) to be able to ingest/integrate/maintain the data streams within the platform
• Build relationships with key stakeholders in order to understand both Viacom’s business needs and existing data assets, in order to connect the dots and build data delivery tools that help in (not limited to the following):
◦ Leveraging existing programming data for more targeted digital programmatic buy
◦ Taxonimzing existing digital measurement data to inform future partnership deals, windowing strategy, cross-platform print
◦ Aggregating data to create predictive tools for audience growth, programming opportunity, and optimal marketing plans
• Play a key role in driving innovation across the company by creating products/tools that allow for easier access to all data, development of standardized KPIs/metrics for insights
Basic Qualifications
• 5+ years of experience in full stack web development, and building out front-end user experiences
• Experience in working with, and passionate about: data science, big data, survey data, social data, cloud environments, data platform architecture, BI, data visualization, data automation
• BA/BS or MS degree in Computer Science, Media Science, Economics, Statistics, Engineering, Math or other quantitative field (or equivalent practical experience)
• Proficiency in Python, Django, HTML/CSS, Javascript/JQuery, Git/Github
• Experience developing scalable, responsive data-driven web platforms in a team-oriented production environment
• Proficiency in databases (eg. PostgreSQL, Redis), front-end libraries (D3.js, Bootstrap, SASS, Underscore), REST APIs, authentication systems, SEO, and build automation
• Knowledge or experience with DevOps (eg. unit testing, performance monitoring, release management, infrastructure configuration, and web security)
• Programming experience working in a cloud environment (e.g., AWS).
• Solid foundation in data structures and software design with strong analytical and debugging skills
