Washington, DC, United States

National Journal’s Presentation Center is growing and seeks a collaborative individual to distill public policy and political developments into polished graphical presentations.
The Presentation Center produces PowerPoint-based policy research on the latest happenings in Washington, publishing content exclusively for senior public policy practitioners and government affairs executives. If you consider yourself a public policy wonk, this could be the role for you.
This position, which blends traditional research, publication, and consulting/advisory roles, demands a high intellectual metabolism. The ideal applicant will have experience translating complex policies and datasets into elegant written and visual summaries.
Responsibilities Include:
• Produce high-quality presentation content based on secondary news sources and primary data sources
• Explain public policy issues for a non-Washington audience
• Produce data driven graphics
• Help junior researchers clarify and shape their research findings and ideas
• Spearhead individual research inquiries and assume intellectual ownership of discrete topics related to political and policy developments
• Analyze and synthesize quantitative data from public sources and think tanks (e.g., Congressional Research Service, Congressional Budget Office, Sunlight Foundation)
• Contextualize and interpret research findings within larger ideas, topics, and trends
• Extract from research key insights for an executive audience
• Provide excellent written summaries of key findings
• Synthesize research for high-quality graphical representation
Qualifications of the Ideal Candidate:
• Experience synthesizing quantitative and qualitative research
• Able to distill large amounts of information into concise bullets, graphics, and frameworks (rather than expansive prose)
• Experienced or interested in creating graphical representations of data
• Demonstrated interest in politics and public policy
• Experienced at managing multiple simultaneous projects from start to finish
• Proficient with Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel, with some familiarity with dataset software
• Excellent academic record
Across Atlantic Media, generally, the firm looks for two “pillar gifts” in its candidates. In all of us, these are more aspirational than actual, but they are central in our intentions.
1. Force of Intellect - Atlantic Media seeks a discipline and rigor of thought as manifested, often, in exceptional academic performance and, later, success in a professional environment.
2. Spirit of Generosity - Equally, Atlantic Media seeks what we term a spirit of generosity – a natural disposition towards service and selfless conduct.
