Manager, DevOps

• Build and lead a world class DevOps team responsible for supporting and maintaining a highly available application in use by hundreds of institutions and millions of users worldwide.
• Lead the charge toward a hardened CD pipeline.
• Standardize monitoring and reporting across a number of data centers including AWS.
• Accelerate the push to move all infrastructure from self-managed data centers to AWS.
• Track operating costs for all non-production and production systems and react when costs are abnormal.
• Work to ensure that native and cloud-based product infrastructure is scaled to meet future product and service needs.
• Work with Blackboard Product Managers and other product development leaders to ensure our products are designed and built for simple and reliable deployment and reliable, large-scale operation.
• Work with Development teams to establish Operational priorities.
• Participate in an on-call rotation.
• Design, deploy, and maintain high-availability Linux systems, with a continuing focus on standardization of administration and configuration.
• Develop automation tools for maintenance, troubleshooting, and administration.
• Configure and manage performance monitoring tools and notification services.
• Undertake various housekeeping and reporting functions for the areas of responsibility, including product deployments, upgrades & maintenance.
• Mentor junior team members and foster a collaborative, process-mature team.
• Stay on top of the latest technologies, tools and techniques.
Professional Qualifications
Required Skills:
• Experience in Linux systems administration.
• Strong understanding how to configure and deploy Linux servers programmatically in cloud infrastructures.
• Thorough knowledge of Ubuntu administration and tuning.
• Strong experience and knowledge of public cloud fabrics like AWS or Azure.
• Experience managing SysOps or DevOps teams.Expertise and working knowledge of network/server infrastructure running in virtualized and cloud environments.
• Experience in a 24x7x365 Operations environment.
• Strong knowledge of automated configuration management frameworks like Chef or Puppet as well as strong scripting skills (Ruby, Bash, Python, etc).
• Knowledge of SQL and administrating MySQL and Postgres.
• Ability to work independently and within a geographically distributed team.
• Fluent in spoken and written English.
• B.S. in computer science or related area of study.
Preferred Skills:
• AWS Certification
• Big Data experience (Hadoop, EMR, etc)
• Operational ownership of a LAMP stack application
