DESCRIPTION:
CBS4 WFOR-TV in Miami has an opening for an Assignment Manager who can take charge and manage a very competitive and aggressive group of assignment editors in the 16th largest DMA. Extensive knowledge in monitoring law enforcement frequencies and fire frequencies on newsroom scanners for spot news; Telephone law enforcement and fire fighting agencies to learn if spot news must be assigned; check wires for on air bulletins or special reports and new story assignments; prepare a situational describing in detail what stories are being covered, who is covering them, and approximately how much air time is required for each story; gather information by telephone on news stories which are not assigned to reporters; participate in story meetings to inform participants of events being covered; schedule remote trucks (ENG/SNG) for live news stories or interviews; develop contacts in community and cultivate those contacts for news stories; perform other duties which may be assigned from time to time bases upon events of the day, and making sure that we stay on top of previous stories that we’ve covered in the event there are new developments or possible follow up stories for long term or our Special Projects unit. In addition, the applicant should be prepared to maintain the assignment desk scheduling
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants should have a minimum of 5-7 years assignment desk experience and 2-4 years of news management experience. Applicants must also have knowledge of television broadcasting and familiarity with the South Florida area. In addition to that, the applicants must also be able to delegate certain Assignment Desk duties to the other editors on the desk. Two-Four years of college experience is required, preferably with a degree in Journalism.
