About Us
NBCUniversal is one of the world’s leading media and entertainment companies in the development, production, and marketing of entertainment, news, and information to a global audience. NBCUniversal owns and operates a valuable portfolio of news and entertainment television networks, a premier motion picture company, significant television production operations, a leading television stations group, and world-renowned theme parks. NBCUniversal’s policy is to provide equal employment opportunities to all applicants and employees without regard to race, color, religion, creed, gender, gender identity or expression, age, national origin or ancestry, citizenship, disability, sexual orientation, marital status, pregnancy, veteran status, membership in the uniformed services, genetic information, or any other basis protected by applicable law.
Responsibilities
NBC will soon launch a new digital-first team of reporters, filmmakers, animators, tinkerers, engagement producers and video journalists tasked with rethinking what video news and features could and should look like in 2017.
This yet to be named studio will be an independent, off-site division of NBC News aimed at experimenting with emerging technologies and developing a sleek video news offering in new and rapidly growing spaces on mobiles and broader digital spaces.
Our aim is to push boundaries in video by toying with technology, thinking about data, employing smart design and challenging what an American broadcaster should look like in the 21st Century. And we’ll begin our journey by developing innovative video products in several areas, including news analysis, documentaries, live and VR — all while taking advantage of creative treatments as well as NBC’s internal mountain of archive.
What does a mash-up of young filmmakers, journalists, hackers and a US media goliath that helped develop television look like? That’s what we’re coming together to figure out.
Job Duties
We’re seeking a highly experienced video journalist who has as much experience capturing footage and conducting interviews in the field as they do experimenting with social media and mobile technologies. This person should also be familiar with building motion graphics and producing text on video content.
We’re looking for someone with an artistic but radical eye who obsesses over both news and internet technologies.
This role will be responsible for creating documentary-style video, from news analysis to larger investigative features. This person will be expected to create content that lives at the intersection of documentary, news analysis and social media experimentation. We not only expect a polished video product from you but a never-before-attempted social rollout plan for each piece. We will push you to continually reinvent yourself.
We are a team excited to experiment at every level of the creative and editorial process, from framing to engagement to the types of questions we ask.
We’re looking for those who like to pivot off the top headline of the day and create a one to three-day turnaround that makes audiences rethink the stories they’ve already consumed.
You should be able to both collaborate on a team of other video heads as well as operate as a one-person-band in both the studio and field. You should also be competent at every step of the video creation process, from conception to final rollout. And you should be as comfortable turning the camera on yourself as you are on those you interview.
Though very much apart of NBC, we will expect you to bring a start-up mentality to our team, a liking for radical ideas, an unbounded sense of determination and an inventor’s curiosity.
