The successful candidate will have experience building responsive user interfaces on the Web and with making fun, usable products that solve user needs. The designer should be an advocate for users, creating a clear hierarchy of information, as well as deep knowledge of UX, layout, style, typography and the design elements need for satisying experiences.
Experience with news deadlines and an understanding of journalistic ethics are important. Demonstration of strong problem-solving skills is also a requirement. Candidate must have a strong portfolio of effective design approaches, demonstrating a command of formats.
Accountabilities:
In the role you would be expected to:
• Work closely with multiple collabortors, including subject specialists, editors, reporters, designers, developers, product managers and project managers
• Be an advocate for user-centered design and deliver clean, clear solutions
• Help modernize and unify our user interfaces across our product lines
• Design both longer-term projects and protype solutions as we launch new products
• Use data to inform design decisions, looking carefully at patterns and ways to synthesize analysis into successful product design
Experience, skills and professional attributes:
To succeed in the role you must have:
• Strong experience making responsive websites and web apps.
• A command of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Sketch and other design apps
• Ability to create rapid prototypes
• Ability to solicit and synthesize user feedback
• Experience making data-based design decisions
• Ability to work with developers through the product development cycle
• Experience with wireframing and other low-fidelity tools and concepts
• Programming experience a plus; basic knowledge of html and CSS a must
• Experience working in an Agile product development environment required; experience with Scrum preferred
• Experience working with a media organization a plus
• Ability to quickly switch among various tasks
