Introduction
As the research and analysis division of the Economist Group, The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) helps leaders prepare for opportunity, empowering them to act with confidence when making strategic decisions. The EIU is the global standard in providing quality, actionable intelligence to the public and private sector, assessing issues that impact the marketplace for over two hundred countries.
Job Summary
We are looking to recruit an Analyst to join our Access China team. This person will undertake research on a wide range of economic, political and policy issues, producing accurate, independent and high-quality analysis for our clients. They will also help to produce The EIU's forecasts for the Chinese economy, particularly at the provincial and city level.
Besides working with our team of economists and analysts in Beijing, the role will also involve managing, training and renewing part of our poor of external contributors. The successful applicant will be expected to edit contributions from external contributors quickly and effectively to ensure that the quality of products we deliver to our clients is of a high standard. This will also involve translation work.
The Analyst will be involved in efforts to co-ordinate between the Access China team and other parts of The Economist Group, supporting those units where needed. The successful candidate will have opportunities to engage with our growing client base, and to present The EIU's views in conferences and other external settings.
Accountabilities:
In the role you would be expected to:
• Play a key role in maintaining our forecasts for China's provinces and cities and preparing analytical reports.
• Write and edit reports and other content analysing economic, political and policy developments within China.
• Work with colleagues to build a set of coherent and consistent forecasts across China and contribute directly to the quality of Access China's overall service offering.
• Help to manage part of Access China's pool of external contributors.
• Work with our clients to ensure delivery of a high quality service to them
• Provide support to other parts of The Economist Intelligence Unit, and live up to the brand ideals embodied by The Economist Group.
Experience, skills and professional attributes:
To succeed in the role you must have:
• Degree in economics, development, China studies or related area
• Native level English written language skills. Fluent Mandarin Chinese (spoken and written).
• Two years of work experience in an appropriate field. Experience of client-facing work would be an advantage.
You will be able to demonstrate:

• Familiarity working with Microsoft Office (particularly Excel and Word)
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to express complex ideas using non-technical language
