Overview and Responsibilities
Paramount Pictures Corporation (PPC), a global producer and distributor of filmed entertainment, is a unit of Viacom (NASDAQ: VIAB, VIA), a leading content company with prominent and respected film, television and digital entertainment brands. The Oracle Database Administrator will work as part of a team that performs administration and engineering for many applications. A strong candidate will be able to rapidly troubleshoot complex technical problems under pressure, implement solutions that are scalable, while managing multiple customer groups. Deep knowledge of Oracle database concepts, application support experience, and excellent interpersonal communication skills are required. Previous exposure to other database technologies, including SQL Server, MySQL, Teradata, and AWS offerings is highly valued. Joining this team will allow you to develop deep technical strengths.
Responsibilities to include, but not limited to:
• Design and support database infrastructure, with consideration for performance, availability, redundancy, disaster recovery, and specific application requirements.
• Troubleshoot production issues.
• Tune database systems and applications for optimal performance.
• Design, implement, maintain capacity planning systems.
• Help establish and publish standards for configuring databases. Monitor adherence to the standards.
• Help establish, publish and monitor adherence to security standards for access to the databases.
• Day to day production support including checking daily logs, backup/recovery procedures, disaster recovery, periodic maintenance.
• Design, implement, maintain monitoring tools.
• Design, implement, maintain Security Administration reports as required.
• Design, write or re-engineer database scripts to enhance functionality of system.
• Automate system and DBA processes.
• Identify, evaluate and recommend the purchase of software, hardware or services that can be used to improve the performance of this group.
• Perform database upgrades.
• Supervise hardware installs as needed.
• When on call: provide 24/7 support. Respond in a timely manner to all alerts. Assist related groups in debugging production issues.
• When handling user requests: fulfill user requests in a timely manner. Adhere to Change Control processes; ensure that proper authorization is supplied for changes.
Basic Qualifications
• Minimum 4 years’ experience in the following databases and basic knowledge of others: Oracle (including RAC)
• Knowledge of RDBMS architecture
• Strong knowledge of SQL, PL/SQL and T-SQL. Comprehensive knowledge and experience with database performance tuning, installation, configuration, backup & recovery
• Strong knowledge of networking, UNIX, Linux and Windows architecture
Additional Qualifications
• Understanding of and ability to implement internal system standards, procedures and services
• Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple projects and resources
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team environment and communicate with different levels of management and staff
• Other optional skills or qualifications: Unix administration experience or knowledge; technical project management; database certification(s); scripting skills (shell/Perl/Powershell, etc.) to automate admin tasks
• B.S. degree or M.S. degree in Computer Science or Information Systems Management or Equivalent work experience
• Strong foundation in IT Service Management – one of ITIL, CMMI, Six Sigma, MOF, etc…
