Overview and Responsibilities
The Viacom Media Networks’ Business Development group is a centralized team with the mission to create partnerships that drive Viacom’s “Fans First Brands” positioning through innovative and scalable monetization opportunities. We do this by harnessing the power of the platforms that engage and amplify our brands’ stories with a focus on results-oriented advertising solutions. The team is organized into 2 working groups: Fan Platforms (social media- focused) and Video Distribution (apps and ad-supported syndication). We are currently seeking a Vice President who will lead the efforts on the Video Distribution side. The VP will be responsible for identifying, securing and maintaining distribution partnerships for ad supported video and new media content across all platforms. The primary role of the VP will be to identify and secure ad monetized distribution for Viacom content via digital platforms, including content syndication networks, destination portals and application platforms, as well as manage ongoing relationships with such partners. The position also will work in close partnership with internal groups (Marketing Strategy & Engagement, Ad Sales, Brand Consumer Marketing, Product, Business and Legal Affairs) to create and execute initiatives to enhance distribution and drive revenue.
• Manage a team of 3 (Director, Sr. Manager, Manager)
• Structure deal terms, negotiate and manage distribution deals with existing and new distribution partners
• Identify, develop and pursue new distribution opportunities
• Evaluate and provide strategic perspective on new technologies, trends, business models and opportunities
• Be a subject matter expert with regard to content syndication and ad monetization ecosystem generally; maintain an up-to-date and detailed expertise with regard to each of the partners for which the VP oversees the relationship
• Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders at current and potential distribution partners
• Collaborate with internal teams (Programming Groups, Data Strategy, Brand Marketing, Business and Legal Affairs, etc.)
• Develop the strategy and goals for partnership related revenue, audience, and brand growth
Basic Qualifications
• 8+ years of experience working in media business development or content distribution role
• Bachelor’s degree required, JD or MBA preferred
Additional Qualifications
• Demonstrated knowledge of video monetization components is essential; general understanding of technical backend of video syndication landscape
• Proven team management skills
• Strong negotiation & contract skills a must
• Proven ability to work independently, with ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize appropriately
• Proven ability to think creatively and strategically while handling complex issues; passion for new technologies and an ability to understand impact on existing businesses
• Exceptional people skills – including written and communications skills required to build and maintain excellent client relationships
• Ability to thrive, adapt and re-prioritize tasks in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
