Responsibilities
Summary of role:
Reporting to the VP Global Media and Communities North American, the Media & Community Manager helps to support the Pearson narrative and media strategy across both earned and new media channels. This key position on the Global Media team works to raise Pearson’s visibility with both media and the general public.
Main activities/responsibilities:
• Working closely with VP Global Media and Communities, assist with pitching and placing positive media stories to national, regional, trade and local media.
• Handle media inquiries from a variety of media outlets.
• Manage media monitoring, subscriptions and press release distribution platforms.
• Develop monthly and quarterly earned media analysis reports for the Corporate Affairs team.
• Assist with the creation of press materials to assist with proactive and reactive media outreach, including press release, talking points, media statements, and FAQs, b-roll, infographics, briefing papers and other items.
• Assist in managing relationships with key regional, local and education trade media. Act as resource to media outlets on behalf of Pearson.
• Support global communications activity by engaging in social listening efforts to understanding what conversations are happening about critical issues, how key audiences and stakeholders are thinking and feeling.
• Create and deploy social media content for Pearson’s online newsroom, LearnEd.
• Effectively use social media and earned media data and insights to inform decisions and approaches.
• Help to deepen awareness and understanding of media trends, influencers, and emerging hot issues among Pearson leaders and employees
Qualifications
• A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience creating and executing proactive media campaigns
• Experience working on the record with journalists
• Proficient in social media and digital communication and experience representing a large organization in the social space
• Experience of interpreting data and insights to drive approach
• Passion for communication and excellent written and spoken communication skills
• Proven ability to work well cross-functionally and in a highly matrixed environment
• Superior interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects at once (and stay calm!)
