Position Title: Freelance Editor
Position Reports To: Sr. Manager, Production Media Services
Position Summary: The Editor edits content for various assigned MLB Network and NHL Network programming and performs other such related activities, including, but not limited to, motion graphics, color correction, audio adjustments, etc. to help ensure optimal on-air product.
Responsibilities:
• Edit Bumps, Teases, Special Event and countdown shows, Features, breakdowns, etc.
• Finalize and apply graphical treatments to rough cuts for daily show packages.
• Improve packages with motion graphics, color correction, audio adjustments, and other tools.
• Work with Producers to actively pursue and deliver upgrades and improvements to shows.
• Test new graphical teases or elements, identify challenges, and collaborate with Creative Services to improve edit workflows (e.g., developing templates for ease of use and reduced turnaround time in edit rooms, etc.).
• Document new workflows for use by other editors.
• Contribute to the training of new hires on departmental workflows, standards, and best practices.
• Serve as a subject matter expert in the edit discipline.
• Other such duties as required
Skills & Experience: The ideal candidate must have most if not all of the following skills and experiences:
• At least five years’ experience as an Editor at the professional level.
• Must have significant professional experience and operational fluency with the entire Adobe Suite, with specific emphasis placed on Premiere Pro, Photoshop, and After Effects.
• This position requires a strong knowledge of Baseball and the ability to produce content independently as well as collaboratively with a producer.
• Experience in the television industry preferred.
• Must be extremely organized and demonstrate initiative.
• Ability to complete assigned content in a fast paced, deadline heavy, high pressure live environment.
• Individual must work well in a dynamic environment and be able to recommend and implement process improvements, work independently and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Ability to communicate subject matter expertise as required.
• Experience with Adobe Audition preferred.
• Experience working in a tapeless, file-based production workflow is preferable.
• Ability to quickly learn and effectively utilize new post production software and tools, based on industry trends.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrate the tact, diplomacy, decisiveness, and superior people skills required in a pressurized live television environment.
• Possess the visual acuity to work in darkened edit rooms for extended periods of time to create required content.
• Possess auditory acuity to effectively perform required audio-related duties, effectively listen to instructions via Riedel system, phones, etc.
• Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
• Possess the manual dexterity to effectively operate keyboard/mouse on computers, edit equipment, etc.
• Ability to lift up to 10 pounds.
• Ability to navigate distances of various lengths within the work environment.
Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Broadcast Journalism or a related major is highly preferred, or equivalent experience.
