Who We Are:
Twitter’s compute infrastructure team develops and operate the production infrastructure on which Twitter services are running. This team is at the forefront of innovation in the server cluster management systems by being primary contributors to Apache Mesos and Aurora, as well as emergent standards in the application container space.
What You’ll Do:
You will be part of the team responsible for the majority of Twitter compute infrastructure. Our platform serves hundreds of internal customers running the thousands of services that comprise the Twitter product. You’ll have an opportunity work on a diverse number of projects and technologies that drive the compute efficiency, performance and reliability. Join the flock and help us shape the future of distributed, large scale computing!
The Compute team is hiring for the following areas:
• Compute Infrastructure - Building the cluster management and scheduling system that underlies much of Twitter's compute platform and runs most of the services that power Twitter. Early adopters of Apache Aurora and Apache Mesos, Compute Infrastructure continue to contribute to the emerging application container standards while constantly pushing cluster scalability and efficiency limits. Wired recently covered some of the underlying technology and where it’s heading in the future: http://www.wired.com/2016/04/want-build-empire-like-googles-os
• Provisioning Engineering - Provisioning Engineering is creating Hardware as a Service - bare metal servers as easy to provision and maintain as VMs. We build the systems which automate the tracking, provisioning, and maintenance of the fleet of physical servers which underpin Twitter’s computational infrastructure.
• Java Virtual Machine - Twitter is one of the few organizations on the planet that maintain a form of the OpenJDK Java Virtual Machine.
• Kernel & OS - Optimizing performance across 10’s of thousands of machines.
• Cloud Infrastructure Management- Our team is chartered to build next generation cloud management solution centered around containers and multi-tenant infrastructures. This platform we are building is key to bringing the developer the cloud experience within twitter. Tackling all the complexities of distributed infrastructures, and providing developers an easy to use experience for working with twitter cloud is what provides character to this platform.
Who You Are:
You have strong computer science fundamentals and are passionate about scale, quality, and performance. You have experience and/or passion for open source software development. You have experience with distributed systems and asynchronous programming. The ideal candidate has public or open source cluster computing experience (AWS, Azure, GCE, Docker, CoreOs, OpenStack) as well as development experience on the JVM, including asynchronous I/O, concurrency, and the Java memory model.
Requirements:
• BS, MS, or PhD in computer science or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Experience with one of the following languages: Scala, Java, and/or any functional language.
• Experience with software engineering best practices (e.g. unit testing, code reviews, design documentation).
