Introduction:
The Director of Advertising Product Operations is responsible for global operations supporting advertising revenue across The Economist’s online platforms and digital editions. This includes revenue across Economist.com and Ideas People Media (IPM) - The Economist’s publisher ad network. It also includes revenue from The Economist’s Digital Edition and Espresso across mobile and tablet apps, and revenue generated from third party platforms.
The primary focus of this role will be to evolve The Economist’s digital advertising capabilities and to ensure that we continue to provide compelling and top-notch advertising opportunities to our clients.
Accountabilities:
• Ensure that we have the right team, body of knowledge and capabilities, and partner/vendor relationships in place to meet revenue goals on both the direct and programmatic sales sides of the business
• Establish and lead efficient coordinated workflows across businesses – Economist.com, IPM, and Digital Editions
• Have responsibility for the overall advertising product strategy – what new products and advertising offerings should be considered on Economist.com and IPM?
• Build on prior experience in ad product creation to work closely with development team and product owners to launch new advertising offerings. Manage delivery of these and work closely with the ad operations team to ensure they are handed over with clear processes in place.
• Manage Economist.com revamp project from a technical and commercial point of view for display advertising.
• Work with development team to raise revenue concerns of site changes, and suggest new revenue opportunities to implement on the new site.
• Investigate and implement solutions for market challenges to increase the yield of economist.com (ad blocking, refreshing ads, CPH...)
• Manage the communication, packaging, pricing and release of new advertising products to the sales teams.
• Tr and hand over day to day maintenance of new advertising products to ad ops team once implemented
• Train sales on product catalogue and the commercial opportunity around each of our online products.
• Ensure all external facing documentation around products and rates is up to date and circulated to sales teams.
• Hold a detailed understanding of inventory and ad product profitability, advise the business on how to drive up yield and make pricing recommendations - Includes yield and inventory analysis for pricing, forecasting and budgeting purposes.
• Manage viewability rate calculations and approvals for orders with special requirements
• Ensure efficient operations, excellent customer service, and effective sales and marketing support are extended to both internal and external stakeholders
Experience, skills and professional attributes:
Previous work experience
• Previous management of Ad Operations team preferably on publisher side
• Solid expereince of managing internal and external customer relationships without shying away from difficult conversations while still maintaining collaborative approach
• Previous vendor selection and management
• Experience working with remote teams
Knowledge
• Expert knowledge of digital ecosystem including ad servers and ad serving technology
• Understanding of inventory management and advertising operations best practices
• Understanding of programmatic advertising and trading platforms is essential
Technical skills
• Expert working knowledge of Double Click for Publishers (DFP) including prior trafficking experience in DFP
• Experience working with Demand Side Marketplace (DSM) is highly desired
• Microsoft Excel (high level of proficiency required)
• Experience of setting up and troubleshooting Real Time Billing (RTB), Private Market Places (PMP) and programmatic deals
