Summary
Experienced research professional working across all areas of the organization on a wide variety of custom research projects to improve programs and provide constituent insights to further National Geographic’s work and mission. The Research and Insights Manager plans, manages, implements, analyzes, and reports on quantitative studies. The position will identify knowledge gaps and manage the full lifecycle of largely survey research projects from questionnaire design to analysis to sharing insights with various stakeholders in appropriate detail.
Responsibilities
1. Design research studies that guides specific National Geographic divisions and the organization as a whole in meeting programmatic and institutional goals. Requires regular collaboration with appropriate internal stakeholders and development of project timelines and objectives. (20%)
2. Full project implementation of research studies, including scheduling, selection of methodology, sample design, development of qualitative or quantitative instruments, programming and pre-testing online surveys, and deploying and monitoring research in the field. Includes identifying, selecting, and managing external vendors as appropriate. (35%)
3. Integrate and analyze survey data or other research outputs, develop insights, and create reports, presentations, data visualizations, and/or other means of communicating insights to internal audiences. (35%)
4. Serve as research arm for various ad-hoc requests from product marketing research to gathering the latest media habits and trends. (10%)
Minimum Education Required
Bachelor’s degree with prior related work experience required. Master’s preferred, in market research, statistics, social sciences, or related field.
Minimum Years & Type of Experience
7+ years of experience in market research/consumer insights, with at least 3 directly and independently managing complex quantitative projects.
Knowledge and Skills Required
• Demonstrated skills in managing complicated research studies that drive program and organizational optimization and growth.
• Highly proficient in research study and sampling design and experience working with a wide variety of research methodologies, tools, and platforms. Experience managing proprietary research panels/communities a plus.
• Highly skilled at developing optimal survey question wording and question order; superior attention to detail and consistency.
• Highly proficient in the synthesis and analysis of complex, integrated (survey) data and proven ability to explore data in ways that produce significant, actionable insights.
• High level of proficiency with statistical packages (SPSS, SAS, or Q) required; advanced user of Excel and Powerpoint (and/or Keynote). Experience with social and web analytics a plus.
• Proficient in vendor identification and selection.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Highly collaborative and works well with cross-functional teams.
• Excellent and proven project management and time management skills, ability to set priorities and manage expectations.
